i'm a gma watcher and really like Robin Roberts. I feel sad that she must face another hurdle.
I also read that only some 300 of these cases diagnosed yearly the result of previous cancer tx, and each year about one million americans have chemotherapy for some form of cancer. so it seems that your chance of being struck by lightning is greater than contracting mds as a complication from previous tx

When ever I am feeling good because I didn't have chemo..something else pops up reminding me that I still had bc...and radiation to my left breast. I do know that the rad's onc did do their best to avoid my lungs and heart. Piki, Will be keeping your friend in my thoughts tomorrow...please let us know how she is doing. Hope and Strength for us all!

I just heard from a girlfriend that another one of our friends (who was diagnosed with BC shortly after I was), is scheduled for a triple by-pass tomorrow. The surgeon said that the radiation she went through with the BC is what caused the damage. It reminded me of what the radiologist had said to me when I went in for the first visit. She did say there could be heart damage since it was the left breast. I wonder how many end up with this. This woman is two years out from her BC DX. My prayers are definitely with her and her family tomorrow! This disease sucks!

In keeping with the constant plethora of news regarding supplements, I think there was something recently regarding the downside of calcium and vit D supplements, but I didn't pay much attention because i take neither. You might go online and check it out....it was within the last week or ten days.

I know someone who either relapsed or had new breast cancer (IBC that time) 7 years out, and she passed very quickly. I fear I shall never loose the FEAR. I'll be fine, I'll laugh, I'll do what I need to do, and then some, but I know that every once in a while, like a thief in the night, it will creep into my mind, and give me chills.

The gift that keeps on giving........I have to say this news about Robin Roberts is troubling. She was 5 years out I think. Will we ever be able to relax again?!

Elaine I could'n t agree more and if we eat well why bother with supplements?
I only take calcium and Vit D but nothing else as until its proved I'm wary of taking anything!

We learn all the time about bad side effects from various treatments and medications. I suppose those of us who have had chemo can take comfort from the fact that when adverse results are numerous, treatments are discontinued or never get to market in the first place. It is a balancing act, for sure. Robin is in a good position to receive the best care and attention and I wish her well.

While I hope and PRAY that is is extremely rare, I have to add that my daughter-in-law's sister has avery close friend whose mother passed away from this exact thing. SOme of you may remember Eileen...RIP. But I wouldn't have done it any other way....

I forgot to add that I was half-listening to Dr. Snyderman as I was typing..... but she and another doc were saying that vitamin supplements are not necessary if one is eating correctly.... my own onco doc told me the same thing a couple of years ago. There's more to this than my blanket statement, but I think what they are saying is that just taking a pill isn't going to make you healthy. It goes back to eating properly and being active.

I think if we go to the MSNBC, Morning Joe link, we can probably see this morning's interview.
