introduction - Tuesday, July 17, 2012 2:24 PM
hey all, not sure if this is the right place, but i thought i should at least introduce myself before asking dumb questions: my name is jenn. i lost my mother and both grandmothers to breast cancer. i'm touched by the support i see on here, and the survivors' stories. i'm really looking for options about insurance and prevention/detection, since i have such a strong family history. nice to meet you all.

Hi Jenn and welcome, I'm sorry for your losses from this disease and I don't live in the U.S so can't help with your insurance query but I'm sure some of the other ladies will point you in the right direction. Early detection is the key if you're high risk although here in Ireland we have to pay for Mammo's before the age of fifty so again I'm sure the other ladies will know what to advise for the U.S.:)

Hi Jenn. I'm a "Jenn" to.
I am sorry that you have lost loved ones to this disease. It is a monster. I have lost 2 aunts and currently my sister is Stage 4 with bone mets. She is a trooper and I am so very proud of her.
She didn't have any insurance so she never went to a doctor. Once diagnosed in Oct 2010 she was approved for medical assistance. I'm not sure what type of insurance is best. Do you have any through work or do you have to pay out of pocket for it????
I have insurance through my job, it's Highmark PPO. It has been great. Being that I have such a strong history like you, my doctor had me get my first mammogram at age 38. Following that, 6 months later I get an MRI. I even had an ultrasound. I just had my second MRI last week and they want to do another ultrasound (ugh!).
I would call brokers and ask questions. Sorry I don't have any better advice!
Good Luck

Hi Jenn,
I am new to the forum and kinda checking things out.. I saw your post and thought I would stop by and say hello. I read about your mother and grandmother and I felt I could relate with you. I lost my grandmother four years ago to multiple myeloma and my mother was just diagnosed with breast cancer two days ago.
If you ever need to talk or just want to chat...hit me up ;)
