hi all, i'm new here, so i hope i'm asking this in the right place. can anyone recommend a GOOD insurance company? i have not been diagnosed yet, but considering my family history, i'm not sure i want to wait that long (my mother, before she was 60, and both grandmothers). i'm really considering a preemptive double mastectomy. thanks

I do not know your circumstances or age. Do you qualify for Medicaid? That would cost you according to your income depending on where you live. Planned Parenthood provides access to mammograms for women who have no insurance. Try those alternatives before considering mastectomies, even if you could find an insurer who would agree to your wishes.
Lumpectomy 4/14/05 at age 69 Stage 1, 2cm, Node Negative Grade 3, Triple Negative AC/Taxol, Radiation, BRCA2 positive (It's always something!) No Family History

Hi Dolphin and welcome! I too have blue cross/blue shield and they have been wonderful and have denied me nothing...and have paid for everything ask for by my oncologist. It is not cheap but much less expensive than going without. Hope this helps you jellokatt, insurance co's are a mixed bag and sometimes it comes down to how your drs office codes their billing. Hope and strength...
