I'm disappointed in SGK on this. I've been a longtime supporter, but looks like I'll redirect my financial support elsewhere now.

I am sad that my first Race of my Cure (with my Mother, a survivor of 4 years now) will be my last. If anyone is aware of good alternatives to SGK for future donations, I would be appreciative.

What an absolute disgrace - Komen board should be ashamed of this decision. I had to register just to write this post - not only will I never walk again, I won't be supporting anything pink again - support will go to PP instead and I'm sure I won't be the only one.

I agree. I cannot believe Koman bowed down. I will never support you again. I'm sending my check to Planned Parenthood. Koman is a disgrace to all women.

skc stops supporting breast cancer screen for underserved women at Planned Parenthood!
-
Tuesday, January 31, 2012 7:12 PM
The Susan G. Komen for the Cure Foundation has announced that it will stop supporting lifesaving breast cancer screening for low-income and underserved women at Planned Parenthood health centers. It's a deeply disappointing decision — made even more alarming because politically motivated groups and individuals determined to undermine women's access to care appear to have successfully intimidated the Susan G. Komen for the Cure Foundation to withdraw this critical support. Over the past five years, Komen funds have enabled Planned Parenthood health centers to provide nearly 170,000 clinical breast exams and referrals for more than 6,400 mammograms. These cancer detection and prevention programs saved the lives of women who often had nowhere else to turn for care. But when anti-choice groups began criticizing the Komen Foundation for partnering with Planned Parenthood, the foundation ended its support for Planned Parenthood health centers. We know our opponents put their ideology over women's health and lives. What we never expected is that an ally like the Komen Foundation would choose to listen to them.

Komen chooses Right Wing ideology over health. Shame.
-

Komen Foundation lost my support today. I will donate to Planned Parenthood but never again to Komen unless policies change. Poor women need breast health. Who is Komen serving? It is not clear to me at this point. But for me, what is clear is that I will not support you. No more races. No more donations. No more Facebook posts on your behalf. No more. I am from Georgia and I suspect Karen Handel, a right wing candidate for governor of Georgia, is influencing Komen's policies in her public policy position at Komen. I therefore also will not contribute to Komen as long as Karen Handel is on your staff. I am looking forward to spreading the word about the bad turn that Komen has taken. Come back to your roots, SGK - take care of people who need help. Dr. Melanie Thompson Atlanta, GA

Shame on the Komen Foundation for bowing to political pressure
-
Tuesday, January 31, 2012 8:19 PM
The Komen Race for the Cure in Portland has always been a huge event, and I have happily participated in the past, as well as talking up the Susan G. Komen Foundation to anyone who would listen. But the Komen Foundation will get not a cent of my money nor my support after your cowardly decision to withdraw grant money from Planned Parenthood. I am diverting every penny I can spare directly to Planned Parenthood, as are my politically and socially active friends. Shame on you!

Komen buckles under pressure from the anti-women conservatives
-
Tuesday, January 31, 2012 8:32 PM
Found myself extremely disappointed today after hearing the news that Komen has dropped their funding for Planned Parenthood. I have supported both organizations for more decades than I would like to admit to. I feel, however, that this will be one year that I will abstain from the Komen Race for the Cure. Sad, really, since I have more T-shirts than I can count. Having been a recipient of Planned Parenthood's services as a young woman and having a daughter who has benefited from them also, I feel that my loyalty and financial support will have to lie with PP. Sorry, Komen, but you are not too big to fail. I admire what you have done for women throughout the years, but succumbing to the ideocracy of the right wing agenda has put you in the ranks of those who share the opinion that women do not have the right to obtain healthcare services that they want and deserve.
