A poor way be "for the cure" is to defund the #1 free provider of breast exams.

I'm not sure what you were thinking, but it's clear where your priorities lie, and women's health takes second place. Shame on you.

Joseph why do you care more about grinding babies up in your uterus, more than you do about providing care to women with breast cancer? It's shameful that your politics overrides your empathy for women.

Re:Planned Parenthood decision

I also will no longer support the pink campaign even though my mother had a double mastectomy. Both my daughter and I have used Planned Parenthood for affordable gynecological services (including pap smears), and contraception -- 30+years ago in my case, and a few years ago in my daughter's. PP is an invaluable healthcare resource for women who may otherwise receive no care at all. You are either FOR women's health, or you are not.

These people think that everyone that has ever donated to Komen come to this board. I have sold products with the Komen branding for five years now, in fact, I have donated money to local walkers in my local. I had never come here before, but as a Cancer Survivor myself, I feel strongly about Women having access to screening regardless of the individuals income level, race, religion, ethnicity, etc. Komen has made a horrible miscalculation in thinking that they knew everyone's position on something like this...all of us have women in our lives that we love, and the last thing we want to see is screening cut to a segment of society that is at high risk for Breast Cancer. Abortion is another debate, for another time, for another forum...Komen is supposed to be about GETTING IN THE WAY OF CANCER! Cutting the funding that provided 800k breast exams last year is giving Cancer a leg up, and that deeply saddens me. DM

Let's push these hateful threads to the bottom. How will you be supporting SGK today? We will have lots of new supporters to the forum now. Did you know that SGK benefits by purchasing products with the pink ribbon on it? Share your tips and tricks for new SGK supporters here! <3

Unfortunate - SGK Foundation and Planned Parenthood decision
-
Wednesday, February 01, 2012 10:24 PM
I am extremely disappointed in your foundation for its decision to pull funding from Planned Parenthood. How can you stand at the forefront of the fight against breast cancer on one hand and with the other pull funding from an organization that is right there with you? An organization that you should be proud to partner with. An organization that provides 830,000 breast exams each year, nearly 1 million screenings for cervical cancer, birth control to nearly 2.5 million who may not otherwise be able to afford it, 4 million tests and treatments for STDs including HIV and more. I hope you will consider reversing this thoughtless decision. Does it reflect your initial vision when you founded S.G.K.? Did you imagine that one day you'd let politics stand in the way of achieving the goals that you set forth? I hope Planned Parenthood can make up this shortfall with all of the support that you will undoubtedly lose because of this act. -Becky

comfort and joys, LOL -- I see you've changed your tack now that I've convincingly outed you for your ugly slurs against me. You are as transparent as a piece of plastic. Go away and bother someone else.

I CANNOT support anything from Komen after they have decided to play in the gutter with the right wing-nuts and play dirty politics rather than sticking to helping women. No one, not even Komen, helps more women than Planned Parenthood. I will not longer support Komen but instead will redouble my efforts to support Planned Parenthood. Hateful threads are better than hateful actions by Komen.

Funny how you were able to draw a conclusion about something that I did not even mention. Planned Parenthood's abortion services make up only 3% of its total services. Whether or not I agree with abortion has nothing to do with the fact that Planned Parenthood provides 830,000 breast exams, nearly 1 million screenings for cervical cancer, affordable birth control to nearly 2.5 million, 4 million tests and treatments for STDs and more. So, please don't twist my words. I'd like those women, and everyone benefitting from these services to continue to have access to these often life-saving services. I think that shows a great deal of empathy.

I'm so disappointed and saddened at SGK's decision to stop funding breast care health at Planned Parenthood. This is at the expense of low income women across the country. The explanation that SGK's fear of the federal investigation is simply an excuse to give in to the extreme right wing and political pressure. I am a conservative right wing who supports pro choice. For many years I've donated to SGK and participated in Race for the Cure. I'm outraged at this decision and will now donate directly to Planned Parenthood's breast health care initiatives rather than to SGK. Please reconsider. So sad.
