Thanks for the update Rose, it's good to hear from you.
It sounds like you've been through a lot and still going through it!!
I know you'll nurse yourself back to good health little by little, the hardest part I assume is frustration at the recovery time.
Take one day at a time and rest as you're doing and don't be tempted to overdo things!
Our thoughts are with you dear friend. xx

surgery was this past week Tuesday and am heading for 1st follow up appt tomorrow. It took a little longer than planned as the tear was worse than they thought and they had some trouble with some bleeders during surgery. Was home by evening though. The put some anchors in the bone and sutures in and then tethered the tendon down. Had to clean out the joint of frayed cartlidge, tendon etc and smooth the bone spur that the tendons were also catching on. I will be on crutches for 6 weeks and unable to do my current job for 3 months. They have to reevaluate every month. I have to sleep ( or whenever laying on the couch too) with this foam pillow wedge with velcro straps, between my legs like most hip patients. It was quite a significant tear, that they want me to be very cautious. It actually feels better on my hip, with it there. I have to use a CPM machine and a few other machines during the day. Quit the Percocet and am now taking Vicodin. The percocet were making me itchy and also felt like I was in a airplane and my ears wouldn't pop- so trouble hearing conversations. My right leg is cool to cold but not changing colors. Have a pulse on my right foot. Swelling on the whole right leg and hip area. 5 Bandaids due to it being done arthroscopically. This type of repair- tendon repair via arthroscopically is not done in very many places so was lucky to have gotten it done and that the insurance is payijng for it. (Do have to watch the bills like a hawk and keep after them- they sometimes deny the bill even though they had preapproved stuff).
I am taking it easy, the kids come over or call to help. I get worn out (hardly do anything) at the end of the day and can't sit here to long. Will make it through this slowly day by day.

Best of luck to you all..... I started this journey a year ago and had nipple reconstruction last week - recovery is going fine - hope to get some of the crazy bandages off today....

My double mastectomy with expander placement is today at 10:00 am. Its after 2:00 am and I still can't sleep for the nerves. I sure would like a cup of coffee and a doughnut! lol

Gay,
I had my expanders placed at the time of my mast. My radiation onc. said it was ok, so I did it and had fills until they started my radiation. I finished radiation in march and have had them filled twice since then. for me the fills were easy, I could go to the gym right after and be fine. The last fill I had was the hardest, it actually hurt a bit for a few days. It has now been 8 mos since radiation and I am ready for the exchange. The expanders are rather hard. The radiated side seems to be more stationary and does not move at all, the non radiated will move within the pocket. I had a hard time sleeping for awhile, I could only really be comfortable on my back. I can now sleep on my left side, but not the right, I think that is because of the lymph node removal more than anything. If you have any questions that I can help you with I will be happy to. Everyone experience is a little different, but it is good to gather as much info as you can.

Suzie good luck with your surgery. I felt so much better after my exchange. I hope yours goes well.

Gay, my experience with the expander was not bad at all. The muscle behind the expander sometimes tightened up, Yoga helped with that.
