Update on my mental health - Thursday, May 31, 2007 6:07 PM

First of all thanks everyone, i don't feel like i am turning into a freak anymore, I don't know what i would do without each and every one of you. You are all so special

I went to the DR's yesterday to get a referral for my Radaition Onc, and just poured my heart out, she was so good.

So i walked out with referrals for a

1/ Bone density test (mum had oesteo in late 40's)

2/ Pelvic Ultrasound because i told her i didn't care what the genetic test came back with (it takes about 18 months here) i want those babies out so she has given me a ultrasound just till i can think rationally and will do so untill i am ready to decide if hysterectomy if the right thing.

3/ A referral to a consellor again, but this time i rang and made an appoitment, the Dr thinks i might be having some type of anxiety attack.(which she also said is normal for cancer patients)

4/ Full bloods

5/ A full check up including checking all the lumps and bumps i have been worring about

6/ And she is a little worried about my veins in my chemo arm as they are all rock hard, so i have to go and get that checked out. It looks like my muscle has all seperated, so the thing i was not really worriedabout is the thing that concerns her the most, go figure

She also assurred me that i am do remarkably well physically and mentally.

I felt so good last night

Although now i am getting nervous about the Pelvic exan that is for tuesday

Anyway i left there feeling great but i am sure her head was spinning

Thanks again guys

Jacki

PS, i am am a bit slack posting don't worry it is because i have so many appoitments LOL

Hi Jacki,
Glad you're feeling reassured and "normal".  You've been through a lot.  It's ok to freak out now and then.  We're here for ya!

Jacki,
Glad you are feeling better and glad that we all could help you out.
Yeah, tell me about the dr's appts.  I had to have my annual physical last Thursday and I'm anxiously awaiting the results of that along with the results of a transvaginal ultrasound, which the dr did because I asked her about getting a hysterectomy.  My sister is really wanting me to get one.  1-because if you have your ovaries removed you reduce the risk of breast cancer (or in our case, maybe a reaccurance) and ovarian cancer, which she just finished treatments for in March.  The transvaginal ultrasound wasn't terrible, but not something I'd want to do all the time.  My stomach (ok, probably my uterus area) hurt the next day like I'd gotten punched or something.  But nothing I couldn't stand, now its just hurry up and wait.
I also left the dr's with a prescription for Xanax as she thinks I'm might be having some axniety (sp) issues.  Go figure, lady.  I've had one heck of a year and then some, as all of us that have gone through or are going thru treatments have had a year and then some.
It's nice to leave the dr's though and feel like you are not a freak of nature, as I sometimes do, especially when I'm not feeling up to snuff or having one of those woe is me days.
Hope your dad is doing better.  Take care of yourself.
Stay strong and continue to let your light shine.
Becky

Well it sounds like you're going to be a busy girl with all your appointments. I know each and everyone will turn out just fine. And when you have all your results in, you can just rest knowing that you are OK!!!!

Hugs!

Hey Jacki,

Gald you got at least a little reassurance.  I tend to forget about things until I have an appt., then my imagination goes wild.  I think that is pretty normal given our circumstances.  The tamox gives a LOT of women anxiety and depression, so that is probably not helping either,  Hope you get lots of great test results and much-deserved piece of mind.

Hope your dad is continuing to do well.

Thanks guys

My dad is doing well, he got out of hospital yesterday. We thought the Hospital may have given him too much Morphine as he was so happy, but he assured me he was not drugged up, just high on life, He said he was so happy to see the sun come up.

He said he feels better than he has in years and has so much more energy and thinks he may have had this problem for along time.Wow what a ticking time bomb he must have been. I don't know, I think they must have slipped him something...LOL

Well Jacki that sounds like a great plan for you! As a psychologist of course I am especially pleased that you are considering counseling. Just a place to vent and share and express and have someone listen and guide and just be there as a neutral party can be solace to your soul. And I know that is what needs the most care at this point. Glad to hear that the doc listened and responded so well. Thanks for updating us. We are with you all the way! Polly

Jacki,

Sooo glad you are feeling better. Can't imagine why any of us would suffer from anxiety, can you? Good luck with everything. I always enjoy reading your answers to posts. Keep up the good work.

Jackie I'm glad you were able to get a sympathetic ear from your medical team and know you'll feel soo much better after these tests are done and come back normal. I know I did after my bone scan in Jan as I was convinced I had bone mets...so much for self dx, I'd make a crappy Dr lol! The dexa scan is a good idea because mine showed some bone loss already so I began to take Fosamax, this is what contributed to the back pain I had which I thought was mets. I'll be thinking of you and good luck with all the tests!
