Maybe i am on the wrong track!!! - Monday, October 26, 2009 9:50 PM
Hi,  After almost 2 1/2 years, since my exchange surgery and dealing with tremendous breast pain, and seeing tons of doctors, ortheop, arthritis, therpy, and tons of plastic surgeons who mainly insert implants into breast pockets after mactectomy. I believe it may be time to move on to a Plastic surgeon who is involved with DEIP, SGAP,TUG due to the complex of that type surgery it is liking they may have more knowledge as to why i am experiencing so much pain with implants.  Do you think it may be worth a try???

I have ruled out rejection of implants, arthritis, nerve problem, pain management, lymph therapist. etc.

I didn't know what else to try???   Any help would be greatly appreciated!!

Thank you

hi,  I originally had immediate reconstruction with tissue expanders,  exchanged with saline, had capsular contraction, p/s exchanged with silicone (Pain ever since) now he wants to go back to saline.  But has no idea why i am in so much pain.

Hum....so there is no muscular support for the inplants?  I am wondering if this explains a little of the pain.  I know that a couple of my friends opted for reconstruction with expanders then inplants but no muscular support and they have lots of complaints.  Have you asked the doctor about perhaps having the DIEP or Lattis surgery and whether he thinks that the additional support will help with the discomfort?
ALSO, scar tissue can become really painful.  I know when I had my tubes tied and the surgeon screwed up my surgery and left me with 15 staples across my abdomen, after a year, I began having lower back pain and they felt this was from nerves and scar tissue.  Now I just have to deal with it because I don't want laproscopy surgery which will eventually lead to more scar tissue.

Dear friend,

Thank you for your response!  I am sorry it took so long to get back to you!!   I have been so busy trying to get additional info on my reconstruction.  From what i understand my silicone implants were placed between pectoral minor and pectoral major muscles.  Which they tell me is the proper way of doing this, and normally everything goes just fine.  They tell me my case is rare.

I have had several seroma's over the last few years and since then the pain has been increasing worst.  I was hoping time would just heal things, but it doesnt seem to be happening.
I was told by yet another plastic surgeon there is a possiblily it may be fibromyalgia and wants to send me to penn state.  He also said he wants me to try yogi, stetching, etc.  Because sitting idle isn't good.  I am willing to try his suggestions, anything before additional surgery.  Even surgery may not be the right answer for me.

It  could very well be scar tissue, but there;s no way of knowing unless they go back in.  This well be my 3rd surgery.   So i;m trying to hold off on that.

I am sorry to hear about your tube surgery i can't beleive they left  staples across your belly for a year.  I know what you mean about scar tissue they removed  a lot my 2nd surgery, and this time seems much worse.

I wish you well my friend!!!   Hugs,

Hi Ladies,

Is this possible - that all these doctors have never come across an ( injury to a  pectoral muscle ) weather it was something surgily or weather i lifted something without thinking )in a patient that had an implant placed due to breast cancer.

Not one of these doctors know what to do???

woops!  The surgeon did not leave the staples in for a year.....what I met to say was that a year after the surgery, I started having lower back pain.  I read that this can be a side effect of any type of surgery where nerves can grow back and cause scar tissue issues.
I also think that exercise and getting the blood flowing made me feel the best.

Dear Laura,

After my 1st reconstruction , 7 months later i was back at the gym working my lower body, which i did for 3 years i felt really great.  But my left implant started getting hard and plastic surgeon suggested i change them to silicone.  Even thou they look very pretty, they are very painful.  Had several seroma's over the years and pain seems to be getting worse.  I miss the gym very much.  I now joined the wellness coummity for breast cancer patients that do low impact excerise.  While i can figure out what to do with these implants.  I am not a candiate for deip, type surgeries.
