Waiting for scan results and working on my dissertation--fun, fun!! - Friday, June 08, 2012 1:04 PM
Hi all! I have been a lurker for awhile. I was dx 1/10 with 3A and have had 2 recurrences to the lymph nodes in chest and neck. Just finished radiation (for the second time!) and I am currently on Xeloda. Waiting for PET results to come back next week--fingers crossed! I am also working on my DBA (Doctorate Business Administration) at Wilmington University and I need some help piloting a survey that is part of my dissertation. I am researching the effects of self-directed learning (like what we do on this board or by surfing the internet) and its effect on the quality of life of younger women with breast cancer. I have picked women going through chemo as my time-frame because because this is one of the most difficult times in the process and quality of life is most effected. With my research I'm hoping to develop a self-directed learning workbook for women to use while going through chemo. I just received approval through my university's research committee and I am looking for women ages 18-50 who are undergoing chemotherapy. The survey takes 10-15 minutes and is done online and completely confidential. If you have time and would like to participate the link and password are below. Please feel free to forward to anyone else that you think may be interested. Here's the link and password. https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/Self-Directed_Learning_Survey_Pilot Password: SDLAA Thanks so much for your help!!

Scan clear! - Friday, June 15, 2012 10:04 AM
NED on my PET Scan!!! Yay!! Still on the Xeloda. My Dr. is looking for a vaccine trial for me but I am HER2 negative. Everything I can find seems to be for HER2 positive. Anyone run across a vaccine trial for HER2 negative? Also still working on my pilot survey and I need just two more participants to complete the pilot. If you have 10 minutes and are currently undergoing chemo please click the link above. Thanks!!!

Hi and I'm a long time out from chemo so could'nt help with your survey!

I did'nt notice your hormonal status but would the PARP Trials be of use to you??  I think they're currently for triple negs though but its great news on the pet scan and congrats on that!!

Good luck on your dissertation--I cannot imagine working on it while going through all this!  It was hard enough to focus on that when I was in my 20's and when life was easy!
There is a clinical trial for a HER2 vaccine for HER2 negative people--probably the easiest linkage is through the pharmaceutical company's website:  http://www.neuvax.com/  It's a phase 3 trial--was disappointed because I am HER2+ and was looking for something...maybe it will work out for you.

Good luck!

Thanks for the info! Just got back from a vacation if that is what you call going to the beach with your sister and 6 kids-lol! Had a lot of fun though. I will look into both of your suggestions.

Thanks again - looks like this might be a go for me. There is a trial location about an hour from my house. My doctor is checking into all the details.
