Hi Joan,

I want to color mine but I'm afraid of looking like an orang q-tip!! LOL  I had red hair, now it's a funky mix of grey and dark reddish, I don't like it, but will deal for now.  Once it gets more lenght I'm coloring IT!!!!

My doctor told me to wait at least 3 months before I did anything. My hair has been growing for about 2 1/2 months now, very ugly gray with a hint of brown, maybe almost an inch long.
I am getting impatient,so I just keep wearing the wig.

I had dark blonde hair and lightened it with a color before losing it all with chemo.  When it came back in it first was light then went dark.  I decided to blonde it up myself and went to a box with a color I thought would be good.  Well, my hair was not like the old hair!  It was very resistant to the bleach and turned it a horrible orange!  I had to try again and this time it was way to bleached out.  I went to Sally's beauty supply and got help there.  I had to find a toner and go back and put color in again.  Now I know I have very resistant hair.  I have to do it in two steps.  Bleach then color.  My advice is if you are going darker you're probably pretty safe but if at all possible, go get some professional help.  My hair stylist, whom I met at the wig place for cancer patients, said it can take a year or so to get all the chemicals out of your hair so be careful.  Good luck, Steph

I would think it is personal preference, but always best to ask the doctor if you are not sure. I ended chemo in April and got my first trim/ shaping in December. We added highlights then. It was really a fun experience...it was like the icing on the cake.

I was told to wait at least a year. I am embracing my grey and just staying natural. I am almost 1 1/2 yr out from chemo.
Just enjoy life! You will be coloring in no time!

Joan,

I colored mine as soon as I felt I had enough to color.  Mine came back dark brown and grey around the edges.  It was horrible as I've never been a brunette, ever.  It was about 3 months after I finished chemo.  I have not been to the hairdresser yet.  I just used a box for now.
