Does the fat necrosis have to happen locally or can it show up in other areas of the body?

Brook, it's usually local and as a result of scarring from radiation and surgery.

GOOD NEWS!! I was told the biopsy showed fat necrosis and scar tissue (due to lumpectomy & radiation). Thank you to all who responded with info and well wishes. I was not told that this could occur, so when I found the small lump, it really frightened me. I was so happy when the doctor gave me the results. I try not to think about a re-occurrence and tell myself I'm cured, but when something like this happens ... Wow!! I also had a scare about 2 years ago when I developed celluitis in my breast. Thought I had inflammatory breast cancer. Again, was happy to learn this is common with a lumpectomy and antibiotics took care of it. I'll see a breast surgeon next week. Rena, do they usually remove the entire necrosis ... or just watch it? Love, Gisele
