I must admit that I, myself, never said "down the shore". My New Jersey and Philly cousins said that. I, myself, just said "Atlantic City". I was born in Delaware long, long ago but have not lived on the East Coast since 1960. Yes, I am all too familiar with the South Philly accent that has tainted anyone who merely drove near South Street. My girlfriend used to work for an airline and she always knew when someone from Philly was on the other end of the phone. They started each sentence with an "eh". LOL.

Raised in NYC, we always said "gong to the beach" (usually Jones Beach, via subway :) My cousins who all lived in NJ always said "going down to the shore"... I remember thinking that was weird the first time I heard it. Hug Elaine

Julie, Happy Birthday to your 'baby"! I can't resist chiming in on the earlier debate about 'beach vs shore vs" living where I live, we say "going to the lake", cuz there ain't no dang ocean within 600 miles of me...but we do have a lot of lakes. And oh yeah, regarding the "soda and pop", down here in the boondocks, everything is "coke", no matter what the brand, it's "wanna get a coke?"...there's my 3 1/2 cents worth, gotta factor in inflation ya know. Now, I'm still having trouble getting my smilies working, and that's frustrating as all get out... <3 :)
