Why is the foundation partnering with companies whose products cause cancer?
-
Monday, September 12, 2011 3:31 PM
I just saw a commerical for yogurt - dairy is known to trigger cancer cells. A few months ago I saw a campaign where the foundation partnered with Kentucky Fried Chicken - fried anything causes cancer and so does dairy - why is the foundation partnering with companies that make people sick????

I saw a report that said wine increased my risk of cancer, I like my few glasses of wine per week and was dismayed by this but then saw another report that said a glass a day was beneficial!!! My own personal view is that a little of what we like does us good and if Komen sign up with a dairy product or KFC to raise funds thats fine with me, I dont have to eat it but am glad of the research monies it provides to help fund a cure for this disease. it does'nt mean we have to eat/drink it!!!

Air can cause cancer....why breathe? Okay, sorry for the smart remark but do you know how many things are believed to cause cancer? Stop the world so I can jump off. We know sugar is bad, and dairy has too many hormones and tuber plants pull too much chemical out of the ground and on and on we go. So, we try to eat smart and watch our p's and q's. But if Komen or any one wants to partner with a company that makes food that isn't good for us then who cares? Take the money and run. What if this was McDonalds they partnered with? It's not like they have healthy food either but I'm certain research would take any dollars they can. Can you imagine all the families that stay at Ronald McDonald houses while their children are being treated for cancer? Should they stay in a hotel because they sell greasy french fries? I personally do not care who partners with who or where the money comes from or in what percent they donate. Just find a cure.

Dang, so I'm supposed to be avoiding dairy too? I asked my doc and he said, to eat normally but avoid huge servings of soy. And I'm ER/PR+ too...

Pahleeze! Aging is a known factor in cancer. Why bother getting old. It only leads to death! All smokers don't get lung cancer. Chill out! Getting all upset over some study about the causes of this and that can lead to hypertension. That is a risk factor I can live without.

My Oncologist told me that everyone will eventually die of cancer if they live long enough... I believe her. My friend died at 35 of lung cancer; athletic, never smoked. I smoke; my heart function is superior, oxygen saturation 99% after a cig., lungs are A-OK, and my Onc is not nagging me to quit. IMHO - I think that in the end; it's just a crap shoot, luck of the draw...
What a long, strange trip it's been... NERD... July 5, 2012

Life is too short to worry about yogurt I agree, I also am a smoker and think there is far more to the causes and progession of bc than the obvious, but sadly I dont think one size fits all and if it were simply dairy/yogurt/red meat/ whatever ...life would be easier and we could know we'll avoid a recurrance but bc has too many sub types etc so worrying about dairy I feel is a waste of time of effort! I've also learned sadly that bc really is a crap shoot having lost friends that had a far better prognosis than I did!!!:(

My Aunt Belle was 103 in July. She had two sisters who died in their 40's, one of whom was my mother. My aunt has no obvious health issues aside from old age. She takes no medications. She still lives in her own apartment but with an aide coming in daily. The one thing I have observed about my aunt is that she never lets anything bother her. She has lived her life in total denial that anything was ever wrong. She never complains - ever!!!!! Maybe it is because she has nothing to complain about or maybe that old magic DENIAL keeps her silent. Who knows. But it is something to consider. No, she is not senile either.

uh, anyone notice that BCC had one and only one post, and no diagnosis history in the signature? Maybe I am paranoid, but I'd like to see her post more to see if she is for real. That said, and y'all know how nuts I am about things, is the issue the partnering of Komen or the perceived sponsorship it implies? I googled does dairy cause cancer, and didn't get a reliable hit - I mean from Cancer.org (Amer Can society) or anything more reliable than wiki (I did see an article from the Daily Mail). We all have to decide what risks we are comfortable taking and how we want to live our lives. Please don't smoke.

I totally disregard anything coming from the "natural, holistic and so called "integrative medicine" community. We used to have one of those so called experts come and talk to our BC support group once in a while. The so called "doctor" spouted such utter nonsense it was laughable. The woman was a joke. In fact, I stopped attending when I knew she would be there.
