How many appointments?????
-
Monday, March 05, 2012 6:12 PM
OK, I went for my 2 1/2 year mammogram. Nothing really changed, but because I was having axillary pain, I was sent for an ultrasound. PCP had gotten the referrals for both of these for me and I asked to have the results sent to the onc and surgeon. Ultrasound showed nothing but lymph nodes where they should be. MD who found my cancer to begin with came in to re-ultrasound me to show me what she was seeing (decided it was the stay in the bra I had removed, and the material was rubbing on the surgical line). I get home and onc is calling to reschedule my April appt to today. (Of course the mind kept thinking someone wasn't telling me something). Turns out my insurance referral runs out April 1, and they did not want to fight with the insurance to have the appointment at the 6 month mark. Onc says I am doing well. Get home and now the surgeon calls and says I need to come back to see him every 6 months for the 5 years. Seems like overkill to me. My PCP checks me every time I come in to see her, I get mammos and ultrasounds every six months and see the onc. Does everyone else have this many rechecks???? Meanwhile, I have had a torn meniscus since last summer and could not get an MRI. I had an ultrasound in the ER last summer (told them I thought I tore something, they thought I had clots. Complained to my PCP who sent me to my OA MD first (thinking it was my OA acting up) although I keep bringing up the pain started when I started losing my balance going down 3 stairs carrying a 30 lb grandchild), Then the OA MD sending me for another ultrasound thinking it was bursitis, then she ordered an Xray before the MRI because she said that is the only order the insurance would do. SO since September I have had 4 MD visit co-pays, 2 cortesone shots I did not need, an ultrasound and Xray that were basically useless and 9 months of leg pain. I have been going for massage and acupuncture on my own $, and even the last acupuncturist said it looked like I had torn the meniscus to him. I finally got the written DX on Feb 9, and the insurance just found an ortho surgeon who will take my insurance (the one I wanted, refused to take my insurance as they would only give him an Eval visit). Waiting so long has causes tight L hip muscles and now I have plantar fac/heel spur going on in the right foot. When I told the new ortho office this while scheduling the appt, I am told they won't treat that. Cannot get an appt back with the PCP until the 13th and then it will be hurry up and wait for a referral to the foot MD. This insurance referral business SUCKS!
