Thanks for the welcome, Rena and Nuzzys.  And thanks to Alison for helping me through a minor freakout this morning with some private messages.

Waiting a week for the surgery to find out about lymph node involvement is really trying me.  When I had my ultrasound guided needle biopsy the US tech told me she couldn't see my lymph nodes and that was a good sign, so I'm trying to focus on that although the surgeon cautioned me yesterday that ultrasound isn't a good tool for detecting any involvement since it can be microsropic.

Just keep the positive messages coming. I read them over and over and they're quite helpful.  Take Care.

Hi Debbie,
I am sorry I missed your first message.  It is so hard to wait for information.  Once you get it you will know the path you are going to take.  It helps to know what you and your team are going to do to help you beat cancer. It sounds like you are in good hands.  Everyone here will help if we can.

Warmly,
Sadie

Thanks, Sadie.

I find myself coming to this board quite often.  All the ladies here are all so positive and honest. It is very comforting to me right now.  I'm trying to fill my head with all positive thoughts so the negative ones don't have room to make it in.  That is a bit of a challenge right now but you ladies are definitely helping, so thank you everyone.

Hi everyone. Debbie, how are you doing? I hope you're feeling OK.  All is OK here. My flare-up of heartburn from my hiatal hernia is better with an increased dose of my drugs. I'll see the doctor tomorrow and hope to get some good advice. My "baby" turned 25 on Thursday. She had such a wonderful day. She works in the office of a preschool, and all the kids, ages 2 through 5, adore "Miss Karen." Three classes came to the office to sing happy birthday to her and then lined up to give her a hug. The stories she tells me about the little ones are so sweet.  One mother told Karen that her twin boys were making cards for Karen the night before and guessing her age. One of then guessed 71 and the other guessed 66!

Have a great weekend, everyone!

Love,
Rena

Hi,

I'm glad you're feeling better, Rena.  I am feeling so much better the last couple of days.  I still can't wait for Thursday to get here so I can have this cancer cut out of me, but I am sleeping a lot better at night and I haven't even cried once today!  Every morning I wake up and think, OK, seven more sleeps, six more sleeps, like a a kid waiting for Christmas.

So instead of focusing on the 'why me' now I am realizing how much I have to be thankful for: I have access to the wonderful people on this board, have an incredibly supportive family and wonderful friends and I also have the added benefit of being double-covered with insurance.

Hope you all all have a good weekend,

Debbie

Hi Debbie. Just three more sleeps now. I really understand why you want to have this surgery. I felt the exact same way. Just wanted you to know I'm thinking about you and wishing you well. Pals Love, Rena

Hi All,
I am a 35 year old mother of 2 (ages 7 and 5) and was very recently diagnosed with triple negative breast cancer in the left breast.  Sentinel node biopsy results are pending.  I am due to start 6 months of weekly chemo tomorrow. I still feel like I am in the twilight zone as I don't have a close family history and am 35.  I guess I also feel lucky I found it because mine is a pretty aggressive tumor that is rapidly multiplying.  Thanks in advance for any advice and support.  Of course, I can't help worrying about my kids through all this...  Sheryl

Sheryl,

I was diagnosed with an aggressive tumor in my left breast too . Triple negative tumors respond well to chemo. As you can see from my "signature" below, I am in my fifth year as a survivor. This is not a death sentence. Take care and keep us posted.
Lumpectomy 4/14/05 at age 69
Stage 1, 2cm, Node Negative
Grade 3, Triple Negative
AC/Taxol, Radiation,
BRCA2 positive (It's always something!)

Hi Sheryl,

I am recently diagnosed too.  I just had a right side mastectomy on the 10th and my sentinel node biopsy was negative. I still need to see the oncologist about chemo. The best advice I have to give so far is talking and expressing your feelings to someone really helps. There are a lot of wonderful women on this site that can help.  Do you have family or close friends nearby that can help you at all?

I'm new to this too, but if you want to talk, let me know.

Hi Debbie and Sheryl. Debbie, it's good to see you here. That's great news about the sentinel node! I hope you're healing well and getting a lot of much-deserved attention. Sheryl, it all seems like a blur at first. I was 37 at diagnosis, also with no family history. I had 22 positive lymph nodes. My daughter was 2 years old, so I really understand how you feel. I'm happy to tell you that I am now a 23-year survivor, and my "baby" just turned 25. This disease is beatable. Once you get a treatment plan in place, I think you'll feel less at sea and more empowered because you'll be fighting it. We are all here for you. All my best, Rena

Hi Debbie,
Sounds like we are in a similar boat.  I am doing the chemo first, followed by surgery, and then radiation.  I am starting chemo today, so don't have much time to write.  That is awesome news that your nodes are negative!  I am supposed to find that out today as well.  It is going to be an emotional day...  I'm here for you too!  Take care, Sheryl

Sheryl and Debbie,
I am in the same boat as the both of you. I'm new here as well.

I am having my chemo first as well.  I have round 4 on Friday.  So far I'm doing OK.

Hi Sazbro,

Is chemo your first step in treatment or did you have surgery already?  Where do you live?

Sazbro,
I am pre-op chemo as well.  Surgery likely around June...  What is your chemo regimen?  I am weekly with the adriamycin and daily cytoxan pills...  Sheryl

Update on my wife's condition - Thursday, December 17, 2009 10:22 AM
Hi everyone,

I don't post much on here, but do a lot of reading. My wife was dianosed last January with stage 2a, grade 3, triple negative cancer in her left breast. There was micro-met involvement in one node. She had a mastectomy, then 4 rounds of a/c, and 4 of Taxol. She also had 24 radiation treatments. She has recovered nicely from the surgery and treatment. She exercises every day, eats right, etc. She decided to have her ovaries removed recently in order to be proactive, and hopefully prevent a recurrance. Her normal gyno told her he would prefer if she would go to a specialist he knows due to his fear of possible scar tissue from abdominal surgery she had when she was 32. (she's now 55) She has a condition called familial polyposis, so most of her colon was removed. When she had her consult last week, the specialist strongly urged her to have a complete hysterectomy due to an increased risk of uterine cancer from the familial polyposis. She had never been told, or had read anything about this increased risk, but of course agreed to the hysterectomy. We went to his office the day before the scheduled surgery and she had an ultrasound done. We were shocked to learn she already had a mass on her uterus. The mass was biopsied and turned out to be malignant. The surgery was carried out the next day, and we began the wait on the lymph nodes pathology report. I'm so happy to tell you we found out yesterday they are negative!! Talk about a stressful week.  Lots and lots of prayers, and they were answered. We are so thankful Geri decided to have her ovaries removed....who knows how long this would have gone undetected. Anyway, sorry this is so longwinded, but I just wanted to share it.

Dear Tom,
I am so glad to hear your report came out negative.  That has to be such a relief after having been thru so much.  I just wanted to wish you both the very best of Holidays and hope that it is extra special for you this year!
