Jumping in here late. Had my consult with doc on treatment from here on out. This round of chemo ate the tumors, but I still get six months more to go before I  get to take a chemo vacation. Doc laid it out pretty clear (as I was only a year in the clear befor the cancer turned metastic). He told me to think of it as a chronic disease, like arthritis. He also cited several patients he has cured with other types of cancers and feels our cure is coming soon (my doc heads several successful trials and in board at the Mayo, besides his rep here in Omaha.) Sound much easier to deal with that the brick wall we would have hit 10-15 years ago, huh?

And RENA! What an inspiration you are, I'm thinking you are my cancer hero (just slightly under Dr, Soori!)
How needs Lance Armstrong? We have Rena!
You can get anywhere in life you choose, as long as you wear red high top shoes.

return trip, triple neg (by med terms only - triple positive in attitude), 17 nodes and gaining, clinical trial pro, and too darn mean to let it win (hence the nickname Mean Jolene)!

Jojo, you are so sweet! Lance Armstrong I'm not (I'm cuter, but he has better legs). Woohoo for that first round of chemo eating the tumor!! Your doctor echoes what so many people in the medical community are saying: this is treated as a chronic illness and it's possible to keep ahead of it with proper treatment. I know it's not easy, but you are such a positive, strong person--believe me, you are far more inspiring than I could ever be. I hope your doctor is right about being on the brink of a cure. Can you imagine the joy in Mudville when that announcement finally comes?! I'm sending you a huge hug. Keep kicking in those red high tops! Love, Rena

I have not been on here for awhile. I celebrated two years with NED last month. HOORAY!

However, I missed celebrating my two year cancer anniversary back in December as... on the evening of December 10th, shortly after going to sleep, I had an aneurysm in my brain rupture... yes rupture and then had a stroke.

I had absolutely NO symptoms prior to this. Fortunately, I became ill when it occurred and my husband, who was not quite asleep went into action. Also, my son who had been a security guard at his campus for two years had first response training and he had just arrived home.

The chances of surviving a ruptured brain aneurysm is NOT good. Although I was hospitalized for nearly two weeks and do not remember six days, I not only survived it, I was cleared to return to teaching second grade six weeks after it occurred. At the hospital I passed the cognitive test with flying colors and after putting me through my paces, the physical therapist said I had no need of any physical therapy. I have been told there was no permanent brain damage... only clean-up.

Sigh... breast cancer and a ruptured brain aneurysm and stroke within two years. I have much to be thankful for!

Oh, Kathy! I'm speechless! I'm so sorry about the aneurysm and stroke, and so happy that you came through it with virtually no long-term effects. Thank goodness that your husband and son knew what to do. You are indeed a miracle! It's definitely time to celebrate now--both your full recovery and your two years NED. So, if I may, I'll offer some dancing bananas:

Here's hoping that it's all smooth sailing for you from now on.

Love,

Kathy -

I am so shocked and sorry to hear what you have been through, but thank God you came out on the winning side.  What a true inspiration you are - and to be back teaching no less.  May every day from this point on be a healthy one for you.  God bless and thanks for letting us know.

Kathy,

You definitely are a real trooper and a very lucky lady. My mother died of a brain aneurysm at the age of 49. She never knew what hit her.

Hello Everybody,
I wanted to drop in and give everyone a special wish for a Valentine's Day will with love.  I get to add another year to my age on Sunday and I feel very lucky to be celebrating that. I've been reminiscing about all of the things that have happened in the last six years.  My daughter had twin baby girls, my older son got married and opened his own business and my younger son wrote a play that has been produced. I got to work with some wonderful people and I learned to play more.  I am glad I didn't miss these precious times.  Treatment is difficult. but it is so worth it.
Warmly,
Sadie          PS
HAPPY HAPPY VALENTINE'S DAY TO EACH OF YOU!!!

Hi everyone,
I know I haven't been writing, but I have been just trudging through my chemo treatments. After today I have one more round of chemo and I'm done, but the tumor is shrinking. All that's left is surgery and possilbly reconstuction.

I have an appts with my onc. on 3/2/10 and  with my surgeon on 3/30/10.

I'll keep you posted.

Hi ladies...Just wanted to share some good news.  I had my CT and bone scan today...all clear, not a hint of anything, so I'm happy to be dancing with NED.  If you need me, I'll be plastered to the ceiling.  lol

Hello ladies -

I have not posted on this forum for a while but wanted to let all of the newcomers know that in a couple of weeks I will "celebrate" five years living with NED. He has made me a very happy woman! I know he gets around to many others and even though I am not his one and only, I am definitely not jealous and am happy to share him. In fact, I am hereby granting you all permission for as long as you like.

Happy Easter Sisters,

After catching up with reading all your posts, I am reminded how blessed I am to have this connection with you all. I particularly know how blessed I am to be seeing the same names now for the past three years! It is a joy I can't explain. Gail - I know your WBC will stabilize or reverse - think positively! I've gotten off track in my life, but am starting anew today. Please continue to pray for me, as I do for all my TN sisters!

Blessings,
Patti

Patti! How appropriate that I return to this group to find the post from you!  I am doing what i can to get the count down and I'll have blood work in 2 more weeks. Meanwhile I am starting to put myself first and have made changes at my job. I now come in a little later and leave a little earlier (usually). I also have started exercising (well only these past 2 days but it is a start). I try to read posts weekly and always keep my fabulous triples in my heart. Blessings,Gail

Hi everyone,
The pre-op chemo worked. My tumor shrunk so I could have a lumpectomy. Surgery is scheduled for April 19. I'm scared and I don't know what to expect. Any ideas of what to expect and how to care for myself during this time?

Hello Everyone,

I am hoping to get back into posting more.  How is everyone doing?  I am quickly approaching the 6 year mark since treatment ended in July.  I will see my oncologist in two weeks and have a mammogram soon.

I just finished dealing with hyper thyroidism and Graves eye disease.  I'm on the mend now and I am feeling pretty good.  I have an appointment with a specialist to see if they feel one of my eye lids should be lowered since the eye disease caused it to retract a little.

Now I am working on weight loss.

Warmly,
Sadie
