RE: Radiation Tips and Experiences - Saturday, March 15, 2008 7:54 AM
Mona, I am just barely ahead of you. I have 19 down instead of 20. The machine broke on Thurs. so it was cancelled. I have 15 to go.

I am VERY RED and ITCH. I have to see the rad. onc. on Monday to decide if my skin needs a break.

I have never developed the sore throat. I am having the nodes above the collar bone radiated, but so far no problems at all in that area. It is not even red. I just began turning red under my arm this week.

As far as fatigue, it comes and goes. I felt great on Thurs. when my appt. was cancelled. I did yard work for about 2 hours. If I don't stay busy, I get sleepy around 2 p.m. [sm=sleeping.gif] A nap messes me up for going to bed at night, so I am trying to stay busy.  HUGS.

These messages are full of good advice in every post.
Can anyone suggest a good deorderant? I've read to buy Fruit of the Earth 100% Aloe Vera. But missed the deorderant reccommendation. Where to buy or order too?

Thank you,
Dana

Dana, I bought deo. at the health food store. It is aluminum free, but has mineral salts. My rad. team wanted me to try and find one without the salts. I had people suggest Tom's deo. (I think). I have had no luck. I haven't looked online. My deo. looks like a short, fat candle without the wick.  You dampen it and rub it on. Some have suggested baking soda. My cousin's rad onc. told her to use baby powder. Discuss this with your rad. tech nurses. They should be able to help you choose the right thing. The wrong product will cause you to burn. Good luck and BIG HUGS.

Anyone else have their boosts in the middle of radiation? - Monday, March 17, 2008 6:19 PM
Well, I got 19 done (machine was broken last Thurs.) and now they have decided to do my "cone down" or boosts starting tomorrow. They drew on me with the lovely markers and got what they needed to have that set up by tomorrow. I will have 6 of these treatments (they drew an oval around my incision) and then finish up the regular treatments. STRANGE. They say they do this sometimes so as not to have to break up the cycle and get you off schedule. Anyone else ever had this done like this?
I also developed a rash on my back. Right shoulder. They say it is the exit area of some of the radiation. Put the Biafine on it...GREAT...hubby is out of town all week, so my daughter got the job today since she came over for her birthday. I CAN'T REACH IT. Guess I will have to figure something out. Any suggestions? HUGS.

Dana,

My onco told me to use Tom's deodorant.  My husband found it at the vitamin store.  It's called Natural Care Tom's of Maine deodorant which is unscented and aluminum-free. For those of you that can't find it, try www.tomsofmaine.com

I found Tom's at Walmart.  Bottom shelf of deod. isle.  15 down 18 to go for me.  Just a little pink of the skin.  So far so good!

Hi Dana,  How are you doing?
I just had my 20th rad and have 15 more to go.  I have a rash on the inside of my breast but nothing that the cream can't take care of.  I am going to get a double treatment one of the boost days so I can be finished the 11th of April instead of the 14th.  I ended up finishing up on a Monday because my first day of treatment the machine was down.  Luckily that hasn't happened since.  Have you started rads yet?

Hi Terri - Tuesday, March 25, 2008 5:04 PM
Once my tattoos were done, I was told it did not matter if the marks came off. Maybe you could wait one more day before scrubbing them off, just in case.  Good luck. The time will go by pretty fast. I have completed 24 of 34. Hang in there and keep posting here to help others in the future. HUGS.
