RE: Radiation Tips and Experiences - Saturday, June 07, 2008 8:47 PM
I will be starting radiation on Monday the 9th of June. Fortunately the cancer center here doesnt do the tats or markers anymore. The markers were used the 1st simulation and I have 1 very small tat to know where the breast mold stops at.
They also gave me a tube of Natural Care Gel. I will try it and let ya all know if it works........I am fair skinned and always burn the first time or 2 out in the sun.
Let the radiation begin...........I put in the air conditioners on Friday!!
I'm always tired anyhow, so I'm not sure if I will be able to tell the differnce when the rad fatigue hits!

RE: Radiation Tips and Experiences - Sunday, June 08, 2008 8:06 AM
I will be starting rads in a few weeks.
What I'm hearing is I might/will experience some redness, to use a skin cream to fight irritation, and I will get tired. One of my friends took a 1 hour nap every day after lunch, and this got her through just fine.
Am I forgetting anything important?
Am I likely to experience so much fatigue that it will slow down my life significantly?
I want to go Zip-lining with my grandsons in July, and I'd hate to have to bail out because of fatigue. It would also be a way of saying
F*** You to the BC.

RE: Radiation Tips and Experiences - Monday, June 09, 2008 1:25 PM
Glad to see this thread back in the thick of things - I first saw it when it was 1/2 the size it is now!

I go Friday for the simulation appt - mapping is what my onc calls it.  I had a bi-lateral mastectomy May 5 and am still healing.  Going to PT for my arms to get the range of motion back - much better than it was but I hope I can keep my arm up over my head for the required 1 1/2+ hours without significant pain - we'll see.

Had radiation the first time I was diagnosed, so this will be somewhat tricky.  Tolerated the first time relatively well, but I remember the pink and burn and I remember the fatique.  I am almost 12 years older, hoope I can tolerate it as well the second time!

Not sure how many or when I start.  The info in this thread is great.  Looking forward to continued chatter.

Gentlearts,
I am on number 20 of 33 treatments and as far as fatigue I haven't had any. I don't feel that rads will slow you down too much. After 20 treatments I have just turned pink and it is starting to feel like a sun burn. I think you will be fine so keep your plans to go with your grandsons, and have the time of your life!!!yippee!
