Re: Krista - Sunday, April 21, 2013 6:14 PM
Hi Pam, I just finished 33 Rads on Thursday and also had a problem under my breast and at my lymph node incision. The Dr can prescribe creams for this and occasionally will delay treatment for the skin to heal. My Dr wanted to delay for 1 week but I put gobs and gobs of very thick Eucerin on the areas as well as gauze pads and was able to proceed. I used Recovery Cream on the rest of my breast. They do have prescription creams like Silvadene that they can use. Good luck to you.

Today was radiation number 24. I will have 28 treatments, and eight boosts. I'm beginning to burn pretty badly. The dr has recommended hydrocortizone cream. He says it should reduce inflammation and help with the itching associated with the burn. I hadn't seen that posted anywhere in this thread (although I may have missed it). I'm allergic to the sulpha in Silvadene, so that isn't an option for me. Hope my info helps someone!

Today was my 6th treatment.  My doctor has recommended putting hydrocortizone cream on my breast from the first treatment to help the skin not to break down as quickly.  It also helps tremendously with the itchiness.

Hi,  I'm Jill and I was diagnosed with stage 1 breast cancer just before Christmas.  I've had a lumpectomy and negative lymph nodes.  I begin radiation next week.  They are going to increase my dosage into 22 treatments instead of 33 .  Has anyone done this on this message board?   I can't locate new posts only several year old posts.  I'm wondering about fatigue and breast skin reactions.   Thanks.  We can all be strong together.

Hi Jill,

Its good news you only need 22 rather than 33 treatments, some people don't burn at all and I myself only gave went a little pink and itchy, I used natural aloe vera cream after treatments each day and feel sure it helped, good luck!

Hi Jill,

Yes, that's great news to have your numbers of treatments reduced!  Good for you!

I used a product called Recovery Cream and it was awesome.  I applied it 5 or 6 times a day (didn't think I could over do it) and had no trouble wtih burning ~ just a little redness that would come and go quickly.  Here's the website if you're interested.  http://www.recoverycream.com/

Good luck with treatment,
Leah

Thank you your responses.  It made my heart smile.  The kindness of a stranger.  I looked at both recommended sites.  Has anyone had a higher dose radiation treatment and what was your reaction?

Jill I had 33 treatments and five "boosts" to the tumour site and really didn't burn at all but did find it very exhausting going each day as I had quite a journey there. Just remember not to use any creams or deodorant etc before your treatment as some contain tiny metal particles and can interfere with the machine.:)

I finished radiation last Thursday.  My skin got a little pink and I am using Aquaphor.  I do not care for it as it is greasy.  It stained the sheets.
I was surprised to be fatigued soon after starting treatments. I have also had a lot of pain in my breast. The pain is worse now after finishing treatment. Very sore and raw under breast. The doctor gave me gel surgical pads which work great underneath.
