diagnosed with breast cancer 4 days after i found out i was pregnant - Thursday, April 22, 2010 2:43 PM
Hey there,

My name is Christina. Im not sure how all this works but i feel the need to share my story some how and get some support, especially being so young.

I was diagnosed with breast cancer in august of 2009, about 4 days after i found out i was pregnant. NEVER DID I EVER think i would be diagnosed with breast cancer at the age of 23. especially not after just finding out i was pregnant. my mother passed away from cancer in 2004,   so i decided to get my self checked every 6 months. since i was 17 i was getting biopsy's and ultrasounds because of my family history and because I had fibrosystic breast. and the fact that I had DD's did not help.
I was told to get a masectomy done to prevent the cancer at 18 but i figured I was too young and really what were the chances of me getting breast cancer? but at 23 years old, I was diagnosed and 3 weeks pregnant. I went thru 4 different OBGY's because they simply did not want to take the chance to care for me while pregnant and going thru treatment. I finally found doctors that would care for me and I got my bilateral Masectomy done in october 2009 at 14 weeks pregnant and a month later started my chemotherapy. it's now April and I underwent 4 chemos while pregnant. I had a beautiful and healthy baby boy on March 23,2010. and I now have one more cheo left. I then have 6 weeks of radiation and then my reconstructive surgery...hopefully I will be done with all of this. some how some way, I didnt break down with all this craziness.

I just want people to know that breast cancer has no age. and young women need to get checked more often than they think.

Please share my story and if you have any questions or want to know more about my journey, my email is cvalent7@gmail.com

In Oct. 2009, I went to the OBGYN for my regular pap, and breast exam. At that exam I felt the Dr. did a very thorough breast exam. AT that time she felt nothing.   In November after my period, I did a breast exam and found a lump in my left breast. I kind of forgot about it because of the business of the holidays. In December after my period, I noticed the lump again. I didn't get to worried, I was scheduled for a mammogram on Jan. 4. When I went for the mammogram, I told the nurse about the lump. She was concerned enough to take the extra pics. I had to call my Dr. a week after the mammo. I was amazed at how quick things moved when the Dr. got the results. I scheduled to have a ultrasound breast biopsy. My Dr. was kind enough to call us into the office, and tell us in person, that I had Ductal Carcinoma. He recommended to us a surgeon. Surgery was Feb. 4. The surgeon was confident that he had clean margins, and that the sentinal node was negative. I am stage 1, estrogen positive. I am currently finishing up my Radiation, I have 3 left to the whole breast, and 5 to the scar area. I have had some sores under my arms, and have experienced fatigue. I am hoping it will go away rather quickly. I have been absolutely thrilled with the care that I have received from each of the departments. I had a nurse navigator that answered many of the questions that have gone through  my mind. The Radiation Oncologist, and the Oncologist have been available to me if I had any questions. I will start Tomoxifen after radiation is finished. I am on of 8 girls in my family with no history of breast cancer. I have not been tested to see if it is genetics, several of my sisters and my mom have had cysts removed, and have been freaked out about the fact that now breast cancer is in the family. I am 49 years old and looking forward to growing old,  the Lord willing with my husband of 30 years. He is the best!

Hi Everyone, my name is Norma June I was dx withe IBC on Jan 10, 2008.

I had my first symtomps in November of 2007, itching, sore lymphe nodes in arm pits and got the rash of the right breast on Nov 10, 2007.  I knew when I got the rash that I had IBC but it took 2 months to get the "offiicial" dx.

I had a mamo in Dec of 2007 which was clear, had a Breast MRI in early Jan of 2008 with located the cancer and got a positive biopsy on Jan 10, 2008.  I thank God for an excellent Breast specialist that didn't give up or doubt what I had.

I had chemo in Jan 26 through June 13 of 2008, 4 dd of AC every 2 weeks, 8 single Taxol, 3 1/2 doses of Taxotere .  I hated Taxotere, it really knocked me on my but and don't care to ever have it again.

On July 10, 2008 I had a BLM, simple on the left and modified radical on the right with complete node dissection on the right.  I have PM-PS on the right side due to the node dissection.

In late Aug through Oct 2 I had daily radiation, with 5 scar boost.  It was the scar boost that left me with an open wound that wouldn't heal and left me with a frozen shoulder because I was protecting the wound area.  The recovery from the initial rads was painful but it came and went but the scar boost has been my biggest issue to deal with.  Rads left me total exhausted and anemic.

In Jan - March of 2009, I had PT for the frozen shoulder and wound treatment.  The shoulder is much better, but I still deal with a small skin issue to this day and it is very furstrating.

Oh, I almost forgot the most important part, I received the "ALL Clear Cancer Free" on Nov 10, 2008.  One year to the day I new I had IBC!!!!yippee!

I am still recovering from the anemia from the radiation but I am slowly getting better and regaining my strength.  It has been a long 2 1/2 years but I thank God that I am on this side of breast cancer.  I thank God for a wonderful husband who is helping deal with my limitations.  He too, is a cancer survivor!Pals

I have a wonder husband of 32 years, 2 awesome sons and 2 beautiful d-i-l
and 2 amazing granddaughters from our youngest son & d-i-l

Re:diagnosis: Invasive Ductal - update - Thursday, April 29, 2010 9:16 AM
I received a call from the geneticist that the test turned out negative. Now I can wait to hear from the breast surgeon as to what happens next. I am thrilled that this worked out in my favor.
