Re:Introduce Yourself - Tuesday, May 25, 2010 3:42 PM
It's been awhile since I've posted anything so I reintroducing myself--I was diagnosed on Jan 17, 2008--had 8 chemo treatments--4 AC 4 Taxol---had right masectomy on June 6, 2008--then had to have 30  radiation treatments because 9+ lymphnodes/9 removed and taking Tamoxifen currently--still see drs every 6 months. I was 40 years old when diagnosed--just currently had my 2 year anniversary---It does get easier as time passes and I've learned a new normal for me--This is a wonderful bunch of ladies and gents who have helped me through those rough days and times--sometimes just reading helps--Thanks to each and every one of you :)

Re:Introduce Yourself - Tuesday, May 25, 2010 10:36 PM
Hello.  My name is Kelly & I was diagnosed on Feb 2nd of this year.   When I found my lump in my left breast on Jan 1st it was 2 cm. By the time I was diagnosed 1 month later it was 4 1/2 cm.  I started chemotherapy immediately and my last treatment is this Friday, May 28th.  The next step is lumpectomy/nodectomy in mid to late June.  Then radiation after that.  I am a 36 year old single mother of 2 teenagers (son 15 & daughter 13).  So far this has been very overwhelming but I have a fantastic support group in place  helping me along the way.  My concern is has anyone successfully had more children after something like this?  I mean, I'm sure women have, but I'd like to find a few that can talk to me about this.  One's that have successfully had children afterward and that can tell me what they went through.  I have a lot of questions about this that I do plan to ask my doctor and possibly a specialist after all my treatment(s) and surgery is complete.  But any personal stories of encouragement are greatly needed.

Thank you...
Tricia Keegan

Hi Milesofsmiles, great to see you back and many congrats on two years !!!! :)

Hi kelly, I'm older than you so have no personal experience with this although do know a lady on another site who had a beautiful baby after her treatments with no problems.

Your message is hidden a little here so maybe copy and paste it on the sound off forum where more people will see it:)

Erica, please don't give up! I'm sorry that the Komen office wasn't more helpful. I just now saw your message, so you may not see this until after your appt. Please let us know what happened. I was going to advise you to post your question on the "Sound Off" board because more people will see it there, and there are people who will have suggestions. Rena

Hey Rena,
I didn't give up...came close. I feel bad though. I went to my appt knowing that my insurance wouldn't cover the mammogram, but praying they wouldn't run it till later so they can just bill me...and they went through with it. The radiologist saw me as a waste of time i think. He said it's a growth about 2 cm. He didn't say lymphnode or tumor he said "nodule" and because I'm so young he says he's not worried about it. He gave me three options...I can just ignore it, I can have it watched every 6 months w/ a sono and then after 2 yrs they stop that, or I can have a biopsy and prove it's nothing like he thinks and get it over with. So I chose the biopsy, but again can't do it because insurance.  Another thing is it feels bigger since the mammogram....weird.

Hi Erica, thanks for letting me know. Good for you for not giving up! There are some doctors out there will try to make you feel "stupid" for pursuing about these things, but this is your health and your life, and you have every right to get answers. If you want more input regarding financial resources, try posting on Sound Off. As I mentioned, there are women on this site who know a lot more than I do about that, and we have quite a few women from Texas who might know about resources in your state. Take good care--sending all my best wishes, Rena

I am a 44 yr old woman.  I had breast cancer when i was 33.  I was an 11 yr year survivor until yesterday when i was diagnosed again with breast cancer.  It is also in the lymph glands. I have many more tests to do this week and surgery on the 29th of this month. My last go round involved a radical mastectomy and chemo, and this time will be no different.  Here's hoping for another 11 yrs!

Hi and welcome,

How awful for you and what devastating news to get after all these years.   There are a couple of ladies here who had to deal with a local recurrance too after some years but thankfully are doing great.

You did so well for many years, that while I'm sure this must be a terrible blow, I'm sure you'll come through it all again as you did before.   If you check the recon/surgery forum you'll find lots of info and advice and many other's facing the same surgery.   I'm sure things have moved on since your last bout of bc and hope this time it'll be easier for you:)

Hi everyone,
I was diagnosed with IDC a few weeks ago. I have already had surgery and meet with the oncologist next week to find out if I need chemo. I'll start radiation later this summer, if I don't have to have chemotherapy. I'm coping pretty well with the support of friends, but am still in shock about the diagnosis. I'm so glad this site is here - I've been reading postings and have found it very comforting.

Stage 1, ER+, PR+, HER-
Lumpectomy and sentinel node biopsy 5/27/10
