So glad you got to meet!

Omg Tina, that is so funny.  That's the one thing that irritates me almost as much as people who drive 10 miles under the speed limit in the passing lane.   That's why I'm nuts about getting zone 2 boarding.  Cuz you know that overhead is going to be stuffed full of the guy's(or woman, not trying to be a sexist here)  who brought the body bag onto the plane, along with his computer, European carry all, aka purse, and his stinky lunch.   USAirways just eliminated their first checked bag fee for cardholders.  We'll see if that frees up some more space.  I say throw them out the window if they won't fit!!

Joy, Carla graduated on Sunday, sad to see our 8 years at Penn State has ended, but ready to open another chapter!  She's home for the summer, then off to Dusquene in pittsburgh in August

Texas is recovering, albeit very slowly.  He'll be on 2 antibiotics for three weeks then back for another chest X-ray to be sure the pneumonia has cleared.

Hugs to all

Sharon--I was in the first row where we had to put our stuff in the overhead. I brought a tote bag with us just to put the two purses in since me had to put them in the bin behind us.  I wanted to make sure no one could reach into them easily.

Glad to hear Texas is doing better. It is so tough to watch when our beloved pets are not feeling well and they can't tell you what the problem is.

I too am glad that I met Elaine.  It is so nice to put faces with names as well as hear a voice that goes with the typed words.  We will have to try to get together when you visit your son again.  BTW-how is he doing?

Re:Daily Diary of Joy - Friday, May 16, 2014 6:58 AM
Happy Friday !!!

Well... this week the Athena saga continues. Monday night I came home from a meeting. I sat down and she put her paws up on my knees.. I looked down and blood was pouring out !!!!  I about died. So, I covered the bedroom floor in towels and old sheets.. stayed up watching her all night. She had an appt sched at 8am to have stitches out. Normally I would remove them myself but in light of everything I wanted her to be checked over. So.. we are at the vet at 8am. She is listless, her gums and tongue are white.. I wasn't sure she was going to make it. They looked at her.. trying to figure out what the issue could be. Did a CBC on her.. white blood count way way up. They mentioned she needed a blood transfusion and would have to go to the specialty hospital where they would do the transfusion, an ultra sound and a scoop up through her vagina. I was so upset.. I don't have the money for this ... I applied for care credit and got 1200.00. So in mean time my friend who is a vet calls me.. I tell her what is going on.. she calls another friend and she calls me telling me to take her to Dawne's practice..where they were already making a plan. I decided to go to Dawne's.. it was her day off but her associate and his wife (who had helped Athena last week) were both working. Immediatly they went and got thier own dog a GSD named Liesel to be the blood doner. We got her lines set up and they did xray.. which really didn't show much. So decision to do exploratory surgery. I left her in capable hands. Surgery was at 4, Dawne even came in even though it was her day off. So, the end of the stump where they cut the uterus had a terrible infection, a granuloma which attached itself to her bladder... it was a tough surgery but Athena came through it great !! I got to pick her up Wed afternoon. She is eating and acting pretty good. She is very sore but on the mend. I pray this is finally over.
Now some happy news !! Athena became a Grandma yesterday by one of her puppies from 3 yrs ago !! The really cool thing is that the mama dog belongs to Dawne, but my friend linda whelps the litters for her. So, we had a scheduled c-section for Monday. Linda called yesterday and said Tara was nesting, wasn't eating, temp dropped below 100.... so basically she was in labour. Met linda and we drove to St. Mary's GA to the vet that would do the C-section. I got to be in the OR from start to finish... It was so interesting and his surgical team pretty much took care of the puppies as they came out. I had seen this on TV and pics but never the "live show". We had 5 babies, 3 girls, 2 boys. Really a miracle to watch.

Tina and Elaine, so happy you guys got to meet and have breakfast !!  Would love to meet up with some of you guys one day.

Glad it is Friday. A couple of good movies out this weekend. Weather should be decent. Nice and cool this AM. Prob one of the last until fall/winter.

Have a great weekend everyone !!!

Grace-- Wow!  Hope Athena is on the mend this time without any further trauma.  Congrats on the puppies.  I hope all goes well for you soon.

It was very nice to finally meet a sister.  When we talked it seemed as though we had known each other for such a long time instead of the three years that I had been on this site.

Maybe some day everyone will be able to meet.  Until then, stay strong.

Tina, I'm so glad you enjoyed your trip and got to meet Elaine too, hope your rain has stopped by now.

Grace I was following Athena's illness on FB and very glad its nothing too serious and hope she'll be back to her usual self very soon.

Sharon, so glad Texas is doing better too, these furries really do worry us at times, hoping Matt is improving too and managing okay.

Tricia,
Both Texas and Matts recoveries are slow.  He still has significant pain, but according to his PT hand therapist, this is normal for the type of injury he sustained. I hope Matt will be able to come on our planned vacation to st Barth in 2weeks.  I will twist his (other) arm if I have to.

Grace,
Glad Athena is recovering.  Texas had a close call last week with pneumonia.  I don't think he would be here if I didn't follow my instincts to take him to a large teaching hospital.  But that comes with a cost...I've spent $3,500 thus far on vet bills for this episode, not to mention the $3,500 for his elbow surgery in November.   We're calling him the million dollar dog!  Shoulda bought that pet insurance:(

Sharonma -  I'm happy to hear that both of your boys are on the mend :).  I think it would be good for Matt to relax in St Bart's and if he can't make it I, happy to take his place.

Grace  - happy Athena is on the mend too.

Hug

Glad to hear they're both recovering Sharon (albeit slowly), we had a huge vet bill some years ago with one of our cats so I took out the insurance then, like most insurance policies we hope we never need it but its been very welcome a few times, lucky Tex having a caring owner.

Your vacation sounds wonderful and I hope you all enjoy it.:)

Re:Daily Diary of Joy - Monday, May 26, 2014 10:40 PM
Hi ladies !!  I hope everyone has enjoyed thier weekend. I find Memorial day to be bittersweet with having my children both in the Army. Knowing they have lost friends they served with and I just can't imagine the pain thier families have gone through. Being an Army mom, when I hear of a soldier lost, a little bit of my heart goes as well. Just like when we lose one of our sisters. I will be very happy when my youngest is back boots on the ground on US soil. Hopefully Sept or Oct.

Athena has continued to get better and is almost back to her old self. She gets her stitches taken out tomorrow and a check up. I was so close to losing my sweet girl as she was so close to death that had I waited any ...she wouldn't be sitting by me now. Sharon, I am glad Tex is better and oh how I know about the vet bills.. I also have put about 3200.00 for both her surgeries etc the past few weeks. Being out of work I was so scared I would have to make a choice between saving or not saving her.. not a place I like to be in. Thank God one of my credit cards increased my line amount ..and I got care credit for the rest. It has been pretty rough lately but we are going to get through it.
I just finished completing more paperwork for disability. I pray it comes through for me.
Today hubby and I went to see X-Men with my oldest son, his GF and her mom, then had a nice lunch at Mellow Mushroom. It has been so hot, I can't stay outside for long. Anyway, hope all you gals are well. Love you all.
