Rena - Happy to hear Karen spent the weekend with you and David.  She's a dear girl --

Tina -  So glad the tornadoes missed you altogether.  I can't imagine how scary it is to hear that siren!  Then again, at least it's somewhat of a warning; not like here when the earth suddenly moves!!

Sharonma:  How's you mom doing?

Hi Tricia!

No news here - had a good weekend with my BFGF.  We had a Big Fat Greek Wedding weekend…..lots 'o fun!

Hi Ladies !!

I have been reading through the posts... for those of you not feeling well, I am so sorry and hope you are feeling better soon. Also, hoping all the furbabies are doing well. Athena is doing wonderful since her near death experience.. she is doing so good, I even took her to an obedience class my friend teaches.. we just fell into the class and my girl didn't miss a trick !! She also earned her CGC.. AKC's Canine Good Citizen award.

Last week marked my 5 year cancerversary !! I am so proud to be a cansurvivor and I wish to thank you gals for getting me through some really tough times.

As you know, I had been laid off of my job in October.. I went to work for a friend of mine for a couple of months however it just wasn't a good fit. I did alot of soul searching and decided I would apply for SS disability. The job market is so poor and then I got to thinking that with all the doctor appointments I go to for the Cancer, the arthritis, the liver disease.. how could I even ask a new employer for time off? Also, in all honesty, I have such a bad time learning new things, I attribute it to the chemo brain. I have really bad days with the arthritis and liver disease etc. Well yesterday I found out I was approved !!! I am actually pretty proud of myself as I did all the paperwork myself. Everyone told me that nobody is approved the first time and that I would have to get an attorney and that it would take a year or so. Thankfully it was just a few months and no atty needed. This is such a weight off my shoulders... I am having a time knowing I will never have to work again. I can concentrate on my health and hopefully feeling better.

The weather here has been so hot and humid. Sunday hubby and I took the boat out and we ran up on a sand/mud bar. Low tide... we were stuck for about 4 hours as we had to wait for high tide to get us out. Then a really bad storm.. was a tad scary LOL But we got back ok.. think we will wait a couple of weeks before going out on the boat again.

Boys are doing well, hopefully Ryan will be back from deployment in Sept or Oct. We are planning on going to Colorado for the home coming. Michael has been busy doing training up in VA and will do training here in Florida after the 4th.

Ok..I have blabbed long enough. Take care everyone and I will try to keep up more !!

Grace:

Congratulations of getting approved so quickly.  My brother in law is still trying to get approved and I think this is going on three or four years.

Congrats on the 5 years and here's to many more.

Re:Daily Diary of Joy - Wednesday, July 23, 2014 7:00 AM
Joy arrived on July 8 as my daughter and two grandchildren came for a visit.  They left for home yesterday - we had a wonderful visit.  Spent the first few days in San Diego, then to Palm Springs and Las Vegas (yes, we love the heat, lol) and back to San DIego.  Nicole had a chance to spend time with her friends and their kids.  My son was DJing here and they all went to 'party' one night.

My other joy is that my son is moving back to San Diego from Long Beach!

Had my blood workup and numbers are all very good.  A little low on Vitamin D so taking supplement.  Seeing my primary this week for annual check.  On the downside is in addition to my back issues (which is much improved now that I'm off Arimidex), is metatarsalgia of my right foot.  Feet generally not good...can't wear high heels without pain... I LOVE high heels!!  Arghhhh!!!!!

Hope you are all finding joy every day....

Welcome home.  Sorry to hear about the new issue but home the pain can be minimized if possible.

I'll be heading to Vegas in Sept.  Can't wait.

Hope everyone is having a wonderful day.

Elaine I loved your pics too and glad you had such a good time, sorry about the foot pain though and I haven't worn heels for years, I do suffer a lot with Plantar Facitis (think thats how its spelt) a lot though so can relate and think I need to see my GP to refer me to a specialist about it soon.

We're having a heatwave here this week which everyone is loving, whats seldom is wonderful as they say!:)

Re:Daily Diary of Joy - Wednesday, September 17, 2014 7:58 AM
Just wanted to say I'm happy today because after having a pulmonary workup yesterday they found that my lungs are perfect - even exceeding some of the tests at 105%.

The tests were very interesting -- breathing in all sorts of ways while the computer collected the data -- then doing 4 hits of albuterol and testing again.  The albuterol caused me to speed big time and made me hungry and then made me tired.  Actually went to a private space at work and napped for a little while which is something I NEVER do....nap that is :)

I had a cough caused by bronchial inflammation that lasted 8 weeks which is why the doc ordered the workup -- to be sure I didn't have a 'touch of COPD'.  A chest x-ray a couple of weeks ago cleared my mind of the fear that I had lung cancer.

But all is well, thank goodness.  I guess I will always be afraid......

I had a chronic cough and found out it was due to allergies and sinus problems. So now I take one anti-histamine daily plus a nasal spray and things are so much better. On another note - my youngest grandchild will be two in October. He came for a visit last week and I forgot that my home is not "childproof". So now I have to be on alert and I am not used to that. As an example, he found his way into the kitchen for a brief spell but it was just long enough for him to turn on the oven to "Bake" and set the temperature to 150 degrees. I did not discover it until hours later. Fortunately, things did not get very "hot" and there were no damages. But this Nana realizes now that she cannot even think about relaxing when a toddler is around.

Nana, it must be such fun--if tiring--to have a two-year-old in the house! I was happy to discover that the "keypad" of my oven can be locked. I have no grandchildren, but I have a cat who likes to walk across the stovetop and turn on the oven!

Elaine, that's excellent news about your tests! I'm happy for your good results. I will probably be undergoing similar tests soon. I have to see a pulmonologist in October. I had pneumonia in June, and my chest x-ray and a follow-up one in August both showed signs of emphysema. That's all I know for now, but it's been a bad year for colds and infections for me. My lungs were never my achilles heel before, but that my be changing. I'm hoping that a specialist will know more about my x-rays than the various radiologists did, but I'll see.

We're on vacation in Healdsburg, CA, a very pretty little town in Sonoma wine country. Ah, the irony! I can just hear you, Elaine: "But Rena doesn't drink wine!" So true. David does, though, and he's enjoying it. I love the peace and quiet. The house we're renting has a garden, and we're free to pick tomatoes, lettuce and kale. Unfortunately, I have another URI (spent yesterday morning at urgent care--I sure know how to live it up on vacation!), so my taste buds are kind of shot, but the tomatoes from the garden are so delicious and sweet that I can taste them. It rained here this morning, and I sat on the back porch and watched the rain fall into the pool. It was the first rain of any real amount that I've seen in I don't know how long. I think the grape vines stood at attention!

Despite all my kvetching about my health, I do have joy. Having just passed my 28th year since my diagnosis, I am happy and grateful to be alive--to be here to taste those amazing tomatoes and to see the ground drink the rain when it finally comes!
