Re:The waiting room!!! - Friday, April 25, 2014 9:30 AM
Hi all,

I've been in chicago since Sunday, after getting a call that Matt had been injured.  He took a bad fall on a skateboard, and sustained a compound fracture ( bone was sticking through the skin) of his right arm, as well as an injured kidney, and some other bumps and bruises.  He had not been on a skateboard since he was a teenager, and  thought he might recapture some of that fun he had on a board.

Long story short, he was in the hospital for 3 days, had surgery on Tuesday and was released.  Back to the ER late that night and was readmitted for  another  day .  He's in a long cast and still has a lot of pain, mostly due to the severe swelling in his arm.
I hope to return home in a few days, and hope he will be able to manage with his cast and sling without me.  Don't yet know what he'll do about work since he cannot drive.

Ugh, I will be worried leaving him and know theses few weeks will be difficult, but hope he can manage.

I've been a bit absent from komen, but don't forget me!   Like Arnold says," I'll be back"!!

Oh shoot Sharonma!  Poor Matt and poor Mommy! I just hope he heals quickly and without incident.  You may have to go back another time just to help out.

Hug

I'm sorry Sharon and have been watching for your posts about Matt on FB, I'm sure he'll find a way to manage but know you'll worry and I'm just glad his injuries were not worse!

Oh my, Sharon.  I can't even image getting a call like that with your son far away.

I hope he is doing better and can get out a little bit even though he can't drive.

As far as work goes, is the Metra an option for him?  If not, maybe a pace bus.  There are special buses that if you make an appointment will give you lifts to various things when you are incapacitated.  Several of the gentlemen used to use it when going to dialysis.  One of the women that I used to work with had broken her collarbone and she used them to get to work.  This is something that Matt can check into as well.

Keep us posted.  Wish you visit to the Chicago area was more for fun though.

Thanks Tina for the info.   His company is allowing him to work from home for this week, and he can hitch a ride with a few others that do the reverse commute fro the city to the burbs for a week or two.

Hope that Wednesday he will get his mega cast off and get something a little less cumbersome.

Re:The waiting room!!! - Wednesday, April 30, 2014 2:51 PM
I'm waiting for my PET Scan result which was done on Monday. Doc said she should have it by Wed which is today. Currently almost 4:00 and nothing from her office. I'm VERY worried it will have mets - because I feel i waited too long to go to the doctor after feeling a lump. My oncologist tells me I should have come in sooner, but it doesn't mean I waited too long. She feels it is still early but I'm a total basket case!! If I am clear I am opening that bottle of Dom I have in the wine fridge!

I am currently stage 2b ER PR + and HER2-  2.5 cm with 2/3 nodes positive.

Denise the waiting is the worst, I'd give the office a call if I were you and ask the question, I'm sure they'll understand how worried you are, hoping you get to enjoy that vino!!!Pals
