Music as Therapy - Sunday, September 25, 2011 8:58 AM
Last night; as my thoughts were slowing down in preparation for sleep, an idea popped into my head... a thread on the SGK site for posting music!

I'm not a musician but for me music is as essential as water! Music can be a powerful tool for exploring and expressing emotion. I post music links all for the time on my FB page, CaringBridge page and occasionally here.
I hope that this thread is visited often and added to frequently.

Now sit back and listen to one of my all time favorites.....

Louis Armstrong, What a Wonderful World

I've watched the Pink Glove dance many times, and am very proud that it's from my city! Between Oct 3rd and 26th, there is an on-line competition for pink glove dances--http://www.pinkglovedance.com . I can't wait to watch them all and vote! Be sure to watch for the "Susan G. Komen 3-day for the Cure/Bouncin' Buckeyes Team" Joyce

marian-

these are great also.  I was amazed at the sequel.  When they showed the group from Chicago I was trying to figure out what park and medical center they were from.  I grew up in chicago.

Love this thread Anna.
Could we move it to Fun and Games so it doesn't get lost?
Here's one of my faves.  I think Peggy Lee did it originally and I like Sandra Bernhard's version (but it 's too naughty for Komen)

Please don't move it -- I think of Fun and Games forum as something completely different ..

(just throwing my 2 cents in)

Lol Elaine, I would'nt dare and lets agree to where Anna would like it as she's the author, if its a popular thread I'm sure Zach would'nt object to me pinning it here on Sound off so it won't move off the page????

It's more than Fun and Games for me. But sometimes it can be that too....

I'm OK with where ever it ends up as long as We can find it easily.

I hope that it becomes a very popular; cathartic, diversional, uplifting, fun, inspirational, reassuring, diversly expressive thread! Something for everyone but not necessarily everyone for the same something.

Thanks for the feedback!
Love,
Anna Rae

GGGAAAHHH don't move it! It is too late here, kids in bed, and I can't listen, but I will next chance I get! It sounds like a great idea - the perfect place to go to for a pick-me up. I can't wait! Thanks, Anna

I'm a hardcore music lover and music really was one of the key things that helped me through. I have multiple songs for different stages that I went through so I may have multiple posts on here. This song though is the one that my husband and I both used as therapy throughout the chemo stage. This is by an English band called Muse. We went to London last year to watch them live. Was one of those bucket list items and it was just beautiful.

http://youtu.be/HZ4QshsTE3U

The lyrics are:
Follow through
Make your dreams come true
Don't give up the fight
You will be alright

'Cause there's no one
Like you in the universe

Don't be afraid
What your mind consumes
You should make a stand
Stand up for what you believe

And tonight we can truly say
Together we're invincible

During the struggle, they will pull us down
But please, please, let's use this chance to turn things around
And tonight we can truly say
Together we're invincible

Do it on your own
It makes no difference to me
What you leave behind
What you choose to be

And whatever they say
Your soul's unbreakable

During the struggle, they will pull us down
But please, please, let's use this chance to turn things around
And tonight we can truly say
Together we're invincible, together we're invincible

During the struggle, they will pull us down
But please, please, let's use this chance to turn things around
And tonight we can truly say
Together we're invincible, together we're invincible

Anna,

I can not believe this. That Louis Armstrong number is my favorite song of all times. I used to play it and sing along with my friends. Lots of great memories with that song. Plus he was from my hometown ,New Orleans.
