Rena I agree and this is another reason that I love volunteering at my local cancer wellness centre and wish I had gone there through my own treatments!

Re:And Life Goes ON: Daily Support - Saturday, June 23, 2012 8:10 PM
I know I haven't been here much for the last 6 weeks with my daughter and granddaughter here.  They leave Tues, in a few days.  We have had good and hard times, emotional times, stressful times.  It has been wonderful spending the time with my granddaughter.  She mostly spoke French when she arrived and mostly speaks English now.  She is a "2 1/2" year old with many of those issues but such a darling at the same time.  I try to support my daughter as I know it takes so much energy with this age.
I came home from work today  and my daughter was wiped out and frustrated as Evangeline wouldn't take a nap again.  My daughter is getting stressed about going back I think also.  I took my granddaughter outside to help me water my flowers - she loves to do that and I bought kid size watering can for her also to help.  I had to go up on a  ladder to clean a gutter out (pine tree is  losing too many needles) and she was below me and  kept saying "careful gamma!!  Melts your heart.  Sure am going to miss her and they change so quickly at this age!!
Enough for now.  I will be here more after they leave.  Sorry I haven't been around to offer much support.

Rose, Sounds like you are really enjoying your beautiful grand daughter. They do change so quick, I am always surprised when is has been 6 months since we have seen our grand kids and they have learned so much and talk so much more. It will be nice for her to speak both English and French. Do enjoy the last few days with your daughter and grand daughter. Make sure you have some pictures of all of you together...will be so nice to have to remember your time together. Hope and strength, Julie

My sister lives in NY, her grandchildren in Florida. They skype a lot. I threaten my children - when they get married and have kids, I'm selling the house, and just traveling from one to the other depending on the season. Hopefully someone will be in the south so I can winter there, and someone up north so I can go there. Rose, enjoy your time with them, I am sure you miss them already!!

My ex-sister in law  (my kid's Aunt) age 50s was just diagnosed with  laryngeal cancer.  She had a port inserted for chemo and is getting radiation for the next 7 weeks.  She is Stage 2-3 at this point.  They will determine later if they will have to remove her voice box.  They have placed a PEG tube to beable to hydrate and feed her during treatments  etc due to radiation in that area causes alot of burn issues with your esophagus.  My heart goes out to her, her husband, girls and grandkids.
Her, her children and I still communicate via facebook and when we run in to each other infrequently, we catch up and talk like we are still family.  I plan to see her this next month.  She has such a tough road ahead of her and is keeping a very forward thinking attitude!!!

Rose, so sorry about your sister in law. My mom's rads' for her lung cancer made her throat terribly sore so I can only imagine how it must hurt to have rads directly to that area. Keeping good thoughts for her and her family. Hope and strength...

I volunteer for the Delaware Breast Cancer Coalition and will soon become a peer mentor. I was going to do the training last summer but I got my metastasis diagnosis. I had a few peer mentors when I was first diagnosed. A local support group is the best resource, not just for yourself but if you need to help others.

m,
I was a peer mentor (x2)with the DBCC, but think I jumped into the water a bit too soon and dropped by the wayside.  I hope it is a good and positive experience for you!

Hi everyone. I thought that this thought belonged here, rather than starting a new thread. I had my checkup today with my onc, and got my IV of Reclast. It has been 3 years since my diagnosis. first the celebration - You all know we went to the west coast. Well, we went to Yosemite, and they wanted - for a fee - to upgrade us to the fancy hotel While my husband and I were discussing it, I mentioned to the clerk that we were celebrating 3 years cancer free. So? No fee! We had a wonderful dinner at the Ahwahnee restaurant - such a wonderful celebration. Really recommend the pecan pie. Anyway, I went to the doctor, and told him of all my minor aches and pains. You know, they're all cancer until we are told they're not. My port site aches (Hubby thinks I have some scarring in there) My arm has been aching - it felt better once when I wore the sleeve. He just treated me like a normal person - with a few battle scars, yet basically cancer free! We set up all the next tests, of course, the MRI, PET and Dexa but I left feeling....normal. Not panicked, just OK. Well, except for the time I went into their bathroom - somehow the memories got strong there (the smell of their disinfectant?) and I felt a little sucker-punched. But basically, I'm OK, I'm normal. And it feels strange.
