Terri,  I was told that I could wash them off right away.  Nail polish remover works.  I am getting 35.  28 regular and 7 boosts.  Good Luck

Hi Ladies, Just butting in here to say even when you finish treatments carry on using your creams or aloe for a couple of weeks as you do keep on burning. This has probably been mentioned already but for anyone starting out just thought I'd throw it in!
Good luck to the rest of you and fingers crossed for no burns!

Oh Susan, I had a really itchy back and my mom had a "back scratcher"[sm=laugh.gif] (long stick with a small fake hand) don't know where she got it but it worked a treat. She thinks someone got it in a joke shop for her but it made my day lol....

I’m one week into radiation now, and as far as I can tell there is no physical problems.  Although yesterday, I almost started crying while waiting to be zapped…but I didn’t.  Jiminy what a process this is, and sometimes I am just overwhelmed by my cancer treatments…  I also had to have x-rays again today, I will be having those every 5 treatments, it is for quality control, to make sure we’re still zapping the same spot.  *heavy sigh* I’ll never make another glow in the dark joke again… welll, maybe just not for today

I was also exhausted the first 3-4 days of my radiation treatments but that is now easing up, halleuiah! And I'm able to function.  Dang this road to living cancer-free sure is loads of laughs ain't it?

Hi,

I just began radiation treatment Monday of this week. The nurse and doctor said that the fatigue wouldn't hit for a couple of weeks and burns would not happen until later on. I am type I diabetic so they said I am likely to have skin problems. My question is that I am exhausted already. I am getting plenty of sleep at night but I am having waves of fatigue already and it's only been three days. My skin is also red in that area already. I noticed this morning that putting on a bra bugged me and when I checked the area I noticed that the skin is fairly red. Is that normal???

Also the nurse said I couldn't take vitamins during rads. does anyone know of any vitamins that are ok? name brand or something so that I can find them?

I really need some help and would really appreciate some answers and experiences from you ladies.

Thank you all for being here.

Erika

Erika can't help with the vitamins but can tell you I also was hit with fatigue from day two or three so it can happen. It does seem a little early for skin redness but if you have'nt tried it already put the natural aloe vera on (100% natural) after treatments and as often as possible as it really helped a lot. Good luck

I'm almost two weeks into radiation and I feel funny in my chest too, and am short-winded.  Almost like I'm getting sick or like I'm having an asthma attack?  I am going to talk to my Oncologist tomorrow about it.

No redness yet, halleluiah!  I'm going to check out that Recovery Creme so that I can be ready.  I'm a little tired around the edges, jiminy, but am still going gung-ho (or at least I think I am!)

On another note, no one said that I couldn't take vitamins during radiation, so I'm still taking it and doing Emergen-C when I'm not feeling well.  Hmmmm

Hi,  How is everyone doing?  I finished 26 treatments today and 9 more to go.  I get occasional bouts of tiredness but still try to make it to the gym as much as possible.  I came home after my treatment today and went back to bed but now that I am up I'll go to the gym.  I'm actually stalling because I have to get started on my tax return and have been putting it off.
I am a little sore under my arm from the radiation but nothing too bad.
I hope everyone is well and that you'll keep posting.
Laura,  Ask the oncologist about the chest issues.  Also they told me not to take any antioxidents during treatment.

One more bit of advice for those undergoing radiation.  A BC survivor gave this to me and I must agree that it's good advice -  Plan a trip or something fun to do when your treatments are done

Alaska, you should not be taking anti-oxidants during radiation treatments.  I only took my multi-vitamins during the weekends during radiation based on advice from Dr. Andrew Weil and other literature from BC researchers .  Then waited 3 weeks before re-starting my anti-oxidants.

Pink Hugs to all!

HI office girl,

A boost is when the radiation treatment is directed at the tumor site. It is a more focused dose of radiation directly to the tumor site vs the more sweeping radiation that you receive prior to the boost. I am not sure if it is a more intense dose or not. I have 5 more treatments until my boosts begin.

Hi - The two days prior to starting my boost they cut back and I only had two markers done.  I have my first boost today.  Thank goodness because I am so burned on my collar bone and under my breast.   I am tired of taking pain pills at night so I can sleep.  They told me that my boost dosage will stay the same.

Thanks for bumping.
I finished Radiation on May 12th. I feel fine most days but some days man I just get hit with the fatigue, I also started tomaxifen on May 5th so I don't know if that has anything to do with it.
I am also on Herceptin and the last time I was there 2 weeks ago my red blood cell count was down and they said that was probaly from the radiation, then they gave me that shot to try to boost it up.
Just wondering if anyone else had this happen. Curious to see when I go back next week if my red cell count is back in the normal range.
