I wish you luck with the wig hunt! I just did the bald thing (except when I went outside in the winter). I really couldn't stand the hats and scarves let alone a wig. The owner of the company I work for is the only one who seems to have had a problem with it. Tough luck if I could walk around bald he could look at me! I also wanted to let you know that my chemo was also delayed as it took an extra long for my tumor testing to be completed. The hospital "forgot" to send the sample to California (I'm near Philly) and the test takes 2 weeks. It does not seem to have effected my outcome as of Sunday I will be 3 years cancer free. Keep in touch and do check the Chemo thread as I learned many a helpful hint there. Lisa

I would love to do the bald thing, but I work in an office with so many people that would probably freak out and I would hate to do that to them.  Also, it will be getting cold here soon, so I'm doing it more for myself than for anyone.  Here, by the way, is NY.  Them forgetting to send out your sample is inexcusable!  But glad to hear your 3 years cancer free in spite of the delay!  Yes, I was just on the chemo thread today and learned a lot!  The best to you!

Thanks for the Herceptin links, Tricia.  I'll definitely look at them.  Yes, I've spoken to and have seen my surgeon many times and she keeps reassuring me that it looks fine and to be patient.  My oncologist wants her approval before we start chemo treatment, so I'll be seeing her yet again next week, 2 days before I'm scheduled to start.  I think they like to get it started within 8 weeks of the surgery, and it will be a little over 6 weeks when I see her, so I'm thinking I'm still within the limit, although I'd like to see this thing healed already!  We'll see....I'll keep you posted!  Thanks for your encouragement!

Re:Introduce Yourself - Thursday, September 03, 2015 8:48 PM

Hi all, just wanted to update my status.  I start my first chemo treatment tomorrow, 9/4.  My surgeon said that my draining is fine and that I can go ahead with treatment.  It should fully heal although it will be slower than normal due to the treatment.  But it will heal before chemo is over.  So, I'm glad to be starting sooner rather than later.

As for the wig thing, I ordered one from headcovers.com with the hopes that it will fit and be a good match.  I'm focusing on curly type wigs but there is little selection for the style I'm seeking.  Has anyone run into this problem as well?  Local private wig suppliers are even worse...their selection is really limited.  Oh well, if I must, I'll wear a lot of turbans and go from there.

Again, thank you for all your good wishes and encouragement.  I really rely on them!

All the best to all!

Hi Lisa, I had Herceptin too for a year and I'm ten years out now so glad I did, check out this link too to learn more of her2+  www.her2support.org

Joyce, thanks for the update and must have missed it earlier, I bought some scarves from headcovers and was pleased with them. My hospital put me in touch with a salon doing wigs so was happy with the choice and hope you will be too. Sending good wishes again to you and also to Lisa! xx

Re:Introduce Yourself - Tuesday, September 15, 2015 2:19 PM
Hi again...here's another update: My draining actually increased and now I have an infection which is being treated with oral antibiotics. Hopefully, that will work, but I am very disappointed on how things have been going. I really haven't had a "good" day since Sept. 4, but now that I'm on antibiotics, I'm hopeful to feeling better. I've decided to go to a local wig place where the specialist is actually trying to get the wig to look similar to what I currently have. He says he's able to work with a synthetic wig. I'll know tomorrow when I get all my hair cut off and he cuts/styles the wig on me. He continues to use the word "believable". I hope he's right! :-) Continued good luck to all!
