I thought so too Julie, I may make the suggestion to Zach and posted it here so all the new ladies could see it easily and hopefully find it as inspiring as I always have:)

Tricia,

It took me a while to stop crying after watching this. Thank you, al lot of this I keep trying to tell myself, but my inner voice gets pretty soft some days.

Definitely post this out where we can all touch base with it.

I agree.  I just posted it to my facebook page.  It says so much about what we all think and feel.  This on the news of a busy week of tests for me starting Monday. MRI, Bone Scan and Mugga.

Hi Tricia, I'm new to the site. Very touching video.  I was diagnosed in June/09, did not have surgery until 10/9/09. I had a mascetomy with reconstruction. Currently have the skin expander, still experincing swelling and discomfort. I had a appt. with the plastic surgeon this past friday and he wanted to use the needle to do the expansion. I said no. I was afraid. Can anyone tell me what to expect?

Hi Pookie,

I'm glad you liked the movie and welcome to komen although I'm so sorry you had to find us.  I'm sure you'll find all the support you need here to help you through:)
I'm sorry I can't help with your question as I had a lumpectomy and have no personal experience to offer on recon.
Did you see the recon/surgery forum??   if you post your question there I know many of the other ladies will be able to advise you on what to expect.  You'll get lots of tips there too.
I'll ask a few of the ladies to stop by here in the meanwhile and read your question and reply of they can.
Good luck Pookie, you'll get through it and survive although I know right now it's very tough so hang in there:)

Hi Pookie!  I had my surgery on 8/27 did take a while to heal (wish I could remember how long, had drainage issues but no infection)

Have only had one fill (on 11/10) the area was completely healed.

Yes, PS uses a needle but it goes into a port (similar to chemo port I guess but no bump!) so all I felt was a pinch.  He was very gentle and since it was my first only put in saline till I could feel it -- so I only got 50 cc's.

Sent me home with muscle relaxer (and anti biotic since I'm on chemo.)  I never needed the relaxer or any pain med.  My 2nd fill was cancelled last week due to low blood counts but I go back on Monday and am hoping to get 100 cc's since the 50 was so easy.

My advice is what my PS told me.  For this step you are in COMPLETE control.  It does not matter how long it takes (though he wants to get it done before my radiation) and you should be totally comfortable with the process.  If you are not comfortable, I’d wait…

Hi Pookie..... I had expander and fills.... I used to tease that I was going in for a "fill up".... I started fills about 4 weeks after surgery - they do use needles but I just didn't watch - all I ever felt was a slight prick - It didn't hurt at all - each fill I got 50 cc's, and only the last 2 fills were uncomfortable.

The unknown is definitely the scary part - once you get the first one out of the way you'll probably wonder what in the world you were scared of! ha! I was pretty worried until the first one - then - pfffft - piece of cake!  And... it only takes a minute and you are done.

Best of luck!
