Rena, I hope Elaine is right, that you have something similar to her respiratory problem.  Sending you positive thoughts for feeling better.  Breathing easy is one of those things you take for granted, until it isn't easy:(.
Our kids are always "our babies". Damn kids keep getting older while we don't age a bit....amazing if you ask me!
Chicago never fails to disappoint!  It is one of my favorite cities to visit. We had a wonderful time with Matt.  Great restaurants (ate waaaay to much), museum of art, and strolling the city made for a truly awesome weekend.

Tina, hope you have the good results.

Thanks, Elaine and Sharon, for the encouragement. I'd be more optimistic if my two chest x-rays, the one that found the pneumonia in June and the follow-up in August, hadn't both indicated emphysema, according to the two radiologists. If I have it, I will just have to deal with it. Part of my problem is that my attempts to get fitter by walking every day have been dashed by so many illnesses. It's been a baaaad year. I'll know more in a few weeks.

Sharon, Chicago really is a great city--so much to do and so much to EAT!! How can you not love a city that has both a river AND a lake (which might as well be a small ocean). So glad you had a good time. I hope Matt has settled in and is enjoying his job and life there.

Elaine, has the heat down there let up? I hope so. My poor sister was roasting the past few weeks. She recently moved from San Marcos to Encinitas, where it should be cooler, but it was pretty brutal there too.

Tina, Tricia, Pat . . . it's been so long, I just know I'm forgetting people . . . hope you're all doing well.  DJ, I'm thinking about you.

p.s. Do you take bets about whether I can write a short post? I think it's just not physically possible.

Didn't want to braggggg, but about that river and lake, we stayed at Trump Tower in a beautiful suite overlooking both the river And the lake (ocean), courtesy of my hubby's boss.  Really, how the other, other half lives.  Over the top service and luxury.  Who thought of imbedding a tv in the bathroom mirror???? Not that we watched it, lol

I've never been in there but I had heard that it was quite nice.  There are many nice things downtown.  I used to go to the Chicago Symphony many times when I was in High School as well as the museums.  I made my first return trip to the Shedd Aquarium this past spring.  What a madhouse as we went on a Saturday and then went to Navy Pier via water taxi.  It was a fun day.  Next time you're in I recommend visiting Museum campus and seeing the Field Museum, Museum of Science and Industry as well as the Shedd.  The parking is at Soldier Field for the Shedd and for the Field.  You can feel the breeze off the lake as you are walking.

Sharonma - Chicago is a wonderful city....with nice people.  I lived there for a short time...it was actually my first move away from home with a girlfriend.  We froze our asses off.  Lived on Goethe St. (pronounced Gotheeee in Chicago :) at an apartment hotel about 1250 North.  Haven't been back but I hear about all the great restaurants from my son-in-law who travels there on business.

I LOVE the tv in the mirror because I always 'listen' to my tv when I'm doing my hair and makeup at home.

Rena - Yes, heat as backed off. Enciinitas is a nice beach town.  Did you get to visit your sister in August?   I'm sorry you're having these medical problems -- it is not easy to continually be dealing with these issues.  Enough already!  (I'm screaming at the Universe for you.)

Tina - just want to say you're sweet and kind......

Tricia - what up?  A friend of mine is just back from Ireland and I can't wait to hear about her trip.

Pat - How's it going?  Have you sold the business?

Me - The only news I have is that my 17 year old grandson got his first job at Party City for the Halloween season :)  Still pinching myself over the fact that i go to my beautiful Salk Institute every day and the opportunity to do what I do!  On the other hand, my damn right foot metatarsal continues to give me grief.  Now that my back is better, I have foot pain!  Yes, I'm complaining, even though I'm grateful it's nothing more serious.

How about a meetup in Las Vegas?  I'm half-serious :)

Hug

Hi I am new to all of this. I had a core biopsy on the 2cm by 3cm mass on my left breast at 2:00 and a lymph node biopsy. I have only been going through this for 11 days. The radiologist told me he was pretty sure it was cancerous. It seems like forever. I am so scared of hearing that the cancer has gone further than I hoped. Can't get out of bed except to go to work. I am so glad for this post.

Hi. I am so sorry you are going through this. I, as well as everyone on this site, understands how horrible the waiting game is. I thought my heart would explode from anxiety for the 5 days I had to wait for the results of my biopsy. It was almost a relief to have the answer. Remember not to put the cart before the horse! Until all the results are in, nothing is for certain. No matter what, you can get through this. After all, what choice do we have. I wish you luck and will keep you in my prayers.

The waiting game is the worst.  The advice I can give you is not to panic.  There are different stages and different types.  Try not to think about it until you get the results.  I know it is difficult but you have found a site where you will have others waiting with you.

Hi Griffey, when will you get the results as it seems to be taking a long time, I had mine in three days. Remember over 80% of lumps found are benign so although its difficult try not to think the worst just yet, please keep us posted and if I were you I'd begin hassling them for the results as its unfair to leave you so long.Pals

Re:The waitng room!!! - Wednesday, November 19, 2014 11:02 AM
An interesting bit of information I learned. If you have gastric reflux (no matter what the reason), it can cause excess phlegm or chest congestion that makes you cough. I have a hiatal hernia and keep the GERD under control with medication and life style changes, but I still get some reflux at times. Ever since June, when I had penumonia, I've had one symptom that will just not go away--early-morning congestion and cough. It usually gets better throughout the day, but it persists. My allergist told me that gastric reflux can also help bring on respiratory ailments. I'm actually glad to find this out because I was so worried about my lungs. Now I have to work harder on losing weight and avoiding trigger foods--and I'm still working on a way to sleep more upright. I've tried a foam wedge pillow, but I slide down it in my sleep and end up sleeping flat. Does anyone have this issue and know of any solutions short of buying an adjustable bed (they cost a fortune!). Hope you're all well . . .

AND, Elaine,
I hope you're having a very HAPPY BIRTHDAY

Rena I have a Hiatal Hernia too and take a Nexium daily for it, I awoke this morning to what I feel are flu like symptoms although I'm not sneezing or coughing but feel very congested with pain in my lungs and aches all over, If its the same by Friday I'll see my GP and sorry I can't help with your question but wanted to let you know I have some of these symptoms too.

Happy Birthday Elaine!

Rena:  I know when my dad had issues, we used sometype of wedge that went under the mattress.  It elevated his head and he hated it.  For me I used to use two pillows, now I use one and try to avoid the foods that trigger it.  My biggest trigger is salt or tomatoes.

Thanks, Tricia and Tina. I think these things are pretty common. Luckily, we can control them to a good extent. Sometimes, even if I've done everything right, my medication stops working. Tricia, I hope your symptoms have started to clear. The thing with the hiatal hernia is that the symptoms can be so varied. Let us know how you are today. Pals

Thanks Rena and I think in this instance I've picked up a virus so can't blame the Hiatal hernia, the body aches have eased somewhat but still very congested and stood for half an hour in dense fog today for a bus which didn't help. I'll have a lazy day in tomorrow pottering around the house as we're helping Sarah and Noel move into their new apt on Saturday and I hope you feel better very soon.
