Resources and Specialty Programs - Wednesday, September 28, 2011 10:19 AM
When I attended the chemoflage program this month a few hand outs were given and I know many of you might already be aware of these programs -- but I'm fairly new (you know that!) and some of the programs have been a great help for me, especially since my income is so limited.  One is a site www.GoodWishesScarves.org.  They offer a free wrap or 32" scarf of your choice.

Another programs are Look Good Feel Better - a free program that teaches beauty techniques in active treatment to help them combat appearance-related side effects of cancer treatment. www.lookgoodfeelbetter.org  They also give lots of high/mid-end cosmetics.  Since I do not have many eyebrows to begin with, I benefited from this.

www.confetticelebrations.org offers free weekend spa retreats for women with cancer as well as www.imagerebornfoundation.org

I'm not sure if this type of posting is allowed.  I'm not selling any of these programs since I just wanted to offer up some resources for those who are not aware of these.

Tricia, if this type of posting is allowed maybe we can keep it going so that we can swap resources and get more info from those who've gone before.

I have participated in the lookgoodfeelbetter program and it was great.  I waked away with a nice goodie bag of make-up cleaners, etc but also some new friends.  Well worth the few hours.  Another one I am participating in is the livestrong program at the YMCA.  Not all Y's have this program but more and more are getting it.  Another thing, the American Cancer Society will give you your first wig free and a scarf/hat.  More resources to check out.

Thank you Marion !!

I also did the Lookgoodfeelbetter class and had a ball. I got the biggest kick out of a woman that was there. She had lung cancer and I was amazed as to what her "friends" were telling her !!  Things like.. oh nothing can be done for you, nobody survives that etc. I felt alwful for her. She seemed like she may have lived a hard life and made a comment that she never wears make up. Well she started with cleaning her face, then started with the make up and then she got a wig. She was beautiful because she was smiling and she was enjoying herself. She then all of a sudden got up and said..I have to go home to my boyfriend. LMAO  we all cracked up.

My grandfather is suffering from cancer. After reading your reviews, I am thinking to join him to lookgoodfeelbetter program.

See if there is a LiveSTRONG at the Y program in your area. FREE 12 week program, cardio, strength and Yoga. My stamina, strength, and balance have improved. My head is a lot clearer too.
