A question of intimacy... - Sunday, June 30, 2013 8:50 PM

How is your SEX LIFE?

Mine is TERRIBLE!!! Excruciating Pain , even with lubricant. I saw my GYN on Friday and we discussed some options, Pros and Cons. She asked if I had talked with Onc about this. My Onc has told me to go live my life and see my PCP for general health issues. I was HER2+ only and ended Herceptin last June.

After weighing the risk and considering QUALITY OF LIFE, I decided to try the vaginal estrogen cream, low dose for a week or 2. GYN will be calling Con to discuss and I see ONC in 3 weeks.

I have been reading about HRT and as far as I can tell, estrogen is generally OK if there is no uterus present. I have mine.

Are any of you using HRT, or ANYTHING else that helps with this sort of pain?

Thanks for your help.

Hi Anna,

I thankfully haven't had to use any estrogen creams as yet but HRT would be a big no no for me I think and there's no doubt many of us do suffer with intimacy issue's after BC. I recently had a pap smear and it was very painful so next time I'll be sure to accept the lubricant that was offered, I think a low dose estrogen cream is a chance I'd be happy to take if it helped and hope you find this helps you.

Tricia,

Be prepared, lubrication may not help very much. Sex WITH lubrication feels like razor blades!

I will let y'all know how things go after a week of Tx. I HOPE THIS WORKS!

Oh I've got that too! In fact, that's what started me down this path in the first place.

I have used testosterone cream in the past. My current gyn said that I'm not "broken" and suggested some pretty reasonable things to do to get back into the groove so tho speak; date night, scheduling sex, more kissing, dedicated time alone, looking at each other, massage... These have worked for me. When it came time for the real deal, I had to put a halt to it immediately!

Someone just reminded me to, "Use it or Lose it". This is my problem as may be likely be the same for others.... atrophy.

I am REALLY looking forward to next week!

Anna Rae - I've been using the EstRing from the get-go.  I heard the words "vaginal atrophy" and that was simply not acceptable- :)  So I immediately got a prescription from my onco doc.  First things first, I figure!!!  HA HA  Anyway, it's worked wonderfully for me.  It's a little rubber donut you insert into the vagina...doesn't matter where or how it lands.  Stays there for three months. You can have intercourse with it there or you can take it out and put it back...  Onco doc has been measuring my estradiol levels and they are negligible -- under 7.
