Pregnant, waiting for results - Sunday, October 19, 2014 2:24 PM
Hi - I'm 16 weeks pregnant, 35 years old, and have just had a core needle biopsy on an enlarged lymph node in my left armpit. I noticed redness, warmth, swelling on my left breast about 2 months ago, but assumed it was just a side effect of pregnancy. Finally, went to my GP, who dx as cellulitis and prescribed antibiotics. The antibiotics had no effect. I then went to a dermatologist who told me that he did not think it was cellulitis and wasn't sure what it was, but likely just hormones due to pregnancy. At that time, I hadn't researched much on my own, but something still didn't feel quite right to just wait and see. My OBGYN suggested that I see an breast specialist right away. I saw him on Friday and he immediately ordered an ultrasound that day. I had an ultrasound which did reveal skin thickening and enlarged lymph nodes on the left side. They then did a mammogram (double shielded) which just showed the enlarged lymph, nothing else. They then decided to do a core needle biopsy on the node. So now, I'm just waiting. Based on everything I've read, even if the core biopsy comes back negative, I'm going to ask for a punch biopsy on the actual rash, since IBC seems so difficult to diagnose sometimes. Unfortunately, I've also read stories where that came back negative the first time, too! As all of you know all too well, I'm terrified. This is my first baby -though I was pregnant twice before and had miscarriages. I find it difficult to even think about the baby now, amongst all of this. I was going to go shopping today for new outfits because I'm not fitting into anything, but I thought I'd better not because it might just be a waste of money. Anyway, I'll update when I get my results, but it was really nice to just type that out here - where I know others have had similar fears. I haven't told my mother or sister what is going on because I just don't want them to worry.

I'm sorry you have to go through this initial period we all face while waiting for definitive test results. Keep on what you are doing and do not stop until you get an answer. You have already seen a few doctors and that is all to the good, as second and third opinions can bring clarity.********* Good luck and keep us posted.

I'm so sorry you are going through this ~ especially at a time when you should be enjoying your pregnancy.  While I know it's easier said than done, please do try to keep from thinking the worse.  Direct your thoughts to a positive outcome and onto that little life growing inside of you.
You'll be in my prayers,
Leah

Just an update. My lymph node biopsy and skin punch biopsy came back with no cancer, but inconclusive of something else. They want to keep monitoring for now, so I have another appointment on Wednesday for an ultrasound and doctor appointment. The rash has gotten worse and is now covering over a third of my left breast. The skin has thickened considerably, and I now have the peau d'orange that I did not have before. The strange, but I guess somewhat good news is that it has started to spread to the other breast, which gives me hope that it is not cancer, though I know it still could be. Not sure what my next step should be if my doctor wants to continue to wait. The problem is, they can't give me medications to try to see if it is an allergy or something, because I'm pregnant. Can't do an MRI. So I don't know. I just don't know what to do next. Now, I'm 20 weeks pregnant.

It sounds a good result to me so far Mrs B and think I'd be happy to watch and wait until baby arrives, maybe you need to see a dermatologist?
